in the trenches

Yesterday was the first day of fall, and as we say goodbye to Summer, I’m already looking forward to next Summer when our yard should be, oh, let’s say 75% done and we finally have an enjoyable spot outside to watch the kids run around in. This week is all about the outside of our house, which I’m always hesitant to share because honestly, I’m a little embarrassed by it. But amidst all of the other things that are going on house-wise this week (can’t wait to share with you!), the hubby has also been working hard lately starting to dig out the old sprinkler system.

It’s kind of like a treasure hunt… at least, that’s what my little dove calls it; he loves helping to “dig for treasure” with his very own shovel and gloves. I’m just thankful that my main squeeze is handling this part of the project, because I’m still at the point where the yard totally overwhelms me and I just can’t really think about it too much. We (and by “we” I mean, “the Mr.”) still have what seems like miles of old sprinklers to rip up, then terracing and grading to do, a new sprinkler system to lay, sod to lay, a garden and orchard to  build a new fence for… sigh. I just keep telling myself that it’s one thing at a time, it will happen slowly but surely.
More yard stuff to come, and then hopefully some exciting inside stuff! Yippee!
