fruit crate turned shelf

Table of Contents

A few weeks ago my parents were in town visiting and my mom and I went to a local antique/junk shop called the Whistle Stop. This place was piled high with all sorts of treasures to wade through, the first floor barely navigable while the second floor boasted finds from old toys, to silver spoons. I really wish I had had my camera and I can’t wait to go back sans kids and spend some more time there.

While we were there we discovered this old fruit crate and my mamma was sweet enough to purchase it for me. It was a little roughed up around the edges, but really was in excellent shape. After a very light sanding (didn’t want to rub off the lettering!) and a wipe down with vinegar, I gave it two coats of a clear finish. Then it was ready to bring inside and once I decided where I wanted it, the hubby secured ti to the wall and ta-da! A super easy shelf that I felt fit with the decor of our hall bathroom.

I cut a small piece of non-adhesive shelf liner to protect the wood from anything that might be wet or ooze all over the place (like bubble bath or the kiddo’s shampoo) and that was it.
And with that, the decorating in the hall bathroom is complete(ish)… at least, all the stuff is hung on the walls.
Don’t forget to stop back by on Wednesday for our Costume Party link up!
