The other day I was cleaning the bathroom and trying to decide what to do with my little dove once my work was done. Well, he decided for me by walking into the room and climbing into the bathtub. I decided that another bathtub painting party was in order! This time though I had a plan to incorporate St. Patrick’s Day into our art project. Keep reading to see how we turned his art into an easy St. Patrick’s Day garland.

I started by taping up large pieces of parchment paper and vellum on the walls of the tub. Pro mom tip–the tub is the perfect place for art projects because clean up is SO easy! I let him go crazy with the paint and after he was done I hung them up to dry. Once his creations were dry I pulled out some green scrapbooking paper that coordinated. Who doesn’t love a good craft project with things you already have on hand?! I decided to take the creativeness a step further and let him color on the lighter green paper too. It was quite the masterpiece! Then, using my circle cutter I cut several 3″ and 4″ circles out of all the papers.

materials needed:
  • various types of paper
  • paint (optional)
  • string
  • circle cutter or punch

I laid the circles out in a random order as far as colors go. However, I kept the pattern as 3 small circles, then 1 big circle. To attach them I punched two holes in each one and strung them up on string I already had. That was it! A cute and free St. Patrick’s Day garland that my little dove helped me make.

I really love the way the parchment paper circles look with the paint on them. They almost have a marbling effect. This would also be a fun project if you’re a teacher or work at a daycare center. Teachers tend to spend a lot of their own money on things for their classes. But this is a great way to decorate the classroom for little or no money. Plus, the kids would be so proud of their hard work!
