I’m always looking for ways to keep my kiddos entertained and quiet–without screens. It’s fun to have a couple of different go-to activities that we can rotate between. That helps my kids to not get bored by always doing the same activity. This DIY child activity pouch is a fun project to make and keep in your bag. And I promise if you can sew a straight line, you can make one too!
make a child activity pouch out of scraps
I had a bunch of scrap fabric I have been trying to figure out what to do with. So I came up with this idea after seeing some similar items on other websites. It has four small pockets on the left side that can hold crayons, toy cars, or other small objects. Be careful, “other small objects” might mean bugs if you’re like me and have a little boy. I sewed a ribbon across the middle of the back that perfectly holds a pad of paper in place.

On the right side I made a pocket with a button enclosure that is perfect for holding other small treasures (more bugs, perhaps). This pocket is approximately 4×7″ in size, and the total size when the child activity pouch is open is approximately 8×17″. But when it folds up and ties shut it’s a nice, compact 8×6″. That’s the perfect size for throwing in your purse so you can keep your child entertained anywhere that they can get bored! I kind of made it up as I went along, which is why I don’t have a better tutorial for y’all.
