It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for since I shared a sneak peek of our slate flooring a few weeks ago (well, maybe just my mom has been waiting for it. Hi mom!), the big hall bathroom reveal. Just so you can fully appreciate its awesomeness, here’s where we started.
And if you look really closely at the bottom of this picture you can kind of tell that we had a mold issue going on with the flooring near the bathtub. So although we would love to rip out the flooring throughout the entire house eventually, replacing the flooring in this room was pretty much a immediate necessity.
Here’s a rundown of what took place in here:
-
new slate flooring
-
a new, taller, dual-flush, high efficiency toilet
-
stained the current vanity
-
painted the walls Glidden’s tropical surf in semi-gloss
-
installed a curved shower rod
-
replaced the old bathroom fan with a new, quieter fan with a light
-
changed out the old tub spout with a newer one that doesn’t leek
-
replaced the old wooden towel racks, etc. with new chrome ones
-
cleaned out the aerator in the sink faucet
-
installed base board
-
changed out the almond colored switch plates for new white ones
-
fixed two holes, one in the floor, on in the wall
-
fixed the drainage line for the tub under the house, so it would drain downhill like it’s supposed to, not uphill
I really love this bathroom and fall more in love with our slate flooring every day, but just in case you thought this was a done deal, here’s the list of things that this room still needs done:
-
paint the ceiling
-
replace the old light fixture over the vanity
-
put some more things on the walls, I have some different ideas…
-
paint/replace the door
-
frame out the bathroom mirror
-
new sink faucet
But I can definitely breathe a little easier. 🙂

Holy cow. You have been working hard over there! It looks awesome! Cory and I keep saying that we wouldn't mind buying a fixer upper, but holy cow, the amount of work is crazy. It looks like this house has great bones and you are mostly doing cosmetic stuff, which is great. Love all the DIY posts!
Nice work, you sure are busy! I love the idea of framing out the mirror! Would you use stained or painted molding around it? So excited to see how it all turns out!
I am still torn, I can't decide if I want to do white to match the rest of the trim in the room, or dark espresso to match the vanity. I think I could go either way and it would work.
