sewn paper garlands

If you’re on Pinterest you’ve probably seen these all over the place, these sewn paper garlands. Well, I am in party prep mode currently (something that’s coming up in December), and I just made my first ones last week, and I am in love.

It was so easy to make and with the color scheme I picked I’m sure I can reuse it for multiple party ideas down the road. I went to a local craft store and picked up 5 sheets of cardstock: white textured, white chevron printed on kraft paper, white chevron on clear vellum, shiny white polka dots on white, and a natural looking cream. Those sheets were enough to make two garlands, each probably about 5 feet with some paper leftover.
I didn’t use my fancy pants Silhouette, although I thought about it. And I didn’t use a circle punch, because I don’t’ have one. For the circles, I used my Fiskars circle cutter that I got on sale awhile ago at Michael’s. For the squares I just used my paper trimmer to cut strips, and rounded the corners with the same trimmer (I have this one from Staples and it’s awesome).
Once I had all my pieces cut out, I assembled them in the order I wanted them, and then fed them through my sewing machine one at a time using the same, normal setting I use to sew fabric. Really really, it was so easy! Make one, you’ll become addicted!
