mason jar bridal shower invites

My little sister is having her bridal shower tomorrow.
Eep.
How did that happen?!
My sisters and I in 2009. My soon-to-be married sister is the second from the left.
In helping my mom and another one of the bridesmaids plan the shower, I feel a little badly because I kind of took over… but I also don’t feel badly because I have been waiting to throw these types of shindigs for my sisters for years.

I’ll be sharing the rest of the party with you next week, but for now I’ve got the invitations I designed and made to share with you.

I took a lot of inspiration from my sister’s Pinterest wedding board (man, I wish Pinterest had been around when I got married!) as far as the feel and color scheme; and one thing that seemed to fit in perfectly was Mason jars, especially the aqua ones that they have.
I designed these Mason jar invites right in my Silhouette Studio using the ‘print and cut’ feature. If you have a Silhouette machine and haven’t taken advantage of this aspect yet, you are really missing out!
The fonts I used were Georgia, and Janda Stylish Script, which is a free download. that’s one of the things I love about my Silhouette machine, I have access to every font on my computer!

I really wanted a thick and textured cardstock, but my local office supply store didn’t have anything close to what I wanted. That’s when I remembered that in the past I have used watercolor paper in my printer when I wanted a nicer quality paper; I picked some Acrylic paper pads up from my local Michaels and they were perfect! I had to trim each sheet down to 8 1/2 x 11″ size, but it was worth it because the paper was so heavyweight and has a beautiful texture to it.
Unfortunately, I did have some issues with my Silhouette Cameo reading the registration marks once I printed them up. I tried some troubleshooting tips, I’m not sure if maybe the texture of the paper was throwing it off, or what. About two thirds of the way through the invitations I decided to save myself the headache and stop wasting paper and ink and just trim the rest of them to  5 x 7″ size with my paper trimmer. They’re not quite as awesome, but I’m still really pleased with how they turned out. 🙂
