Time is something I have been thinking about a lot lately. I’ve even mentioned it a time or two on my Instagram account (ha, no pun intended). Mostly I have been thinking about what I spend my time on. I suppose it’s because I have been struggling so much lately with trying to balance my family, home, blog and business. I feel like a juggler who is trying desperately to keep all their balls in the air and in order. Stephen R. Covey said that, “Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.” I have really been pondering that lately, am I spending time on things that are urgent, or things that are important? Am I spending time on things that add stress and chaos to my life, or pursuits that add value?
As a blogger the concept of time becomes even more murky. I am blessed to be able to stay at home with my children, and blogging is something I can do from my home whenever it’s convenient for me. In fact, as a stay-at-home-mom I can pretty much do everything when I have the time for it and not necessarily on a set schedule. I can clean when I have time, cook when I have time, blog when I have time, plan fun activities when I have time, run errands when I have time. I know I am more fortunate than most. However, as a stay-at-home-mom with four kids age six and under, the problem is more often finding the time. Actually, rather than finding the time, I should be making the time.
There is a quote that I love about motherhood by Christian writer, Rachel Jankovic. Trying to explain the importance of time in regards to your children she writes, “Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling. You do not collect children because you find them cuter than stamps. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in. It is what God gave you time for.”
So what does this all have to do with fatherhood, as the blog title states? As I said, I have the “luxury” of having a flexible schedule and being able to schedule my own time, to an extent. My husband, who works outside the home obviously does not. Yet somehow he seems to handle work, church responsibilities, service opportunities, and family and fatherhood with an ease at which I marvel. Don’t get me wrong, he’s not perfect, no one is, but I am constantly wondering where he finds the time—or rather, how he makes the time.
Would you like to know what his simple answer was?
“You put yourself last and everyone else ahead of you.”
For once I wanted to put my sweet husband first so I got him a very special early Father’s Day gift. Mike can be hard to shop for and Father’s Day can be especially tricky since it’s always right around our anniversary so that’s two thoughtful and unique gifts I have to figure out within a short amount of time. Luckily, this year I was able to find the perfect, unique Father’s Day gift. This gorgeous wrist watch is from JORD Wood Watches and celebrates the time that he can spend with us. It is the Dover watch and the band is made from Zebrawood and Dark Sandalwood and is conditioned with a natural Tung oil to prevent cracking. One of the most special features to me is you wind it once and then it never stops running (much like my husband). It will keep wound with the natural movement of your body as long as you wear it often enough. I love that you can see the fine and intricate inner workings of the watch, it makes me think of how precious time is and reminds me to spend it wisely.
I want you to be able to have a beautiful and unique gift of time from JORD Wood Watches too! Through June 12 you can enter the link //here// to win a $75 e-voucher for your very own JORD watch. There will be one winner chosen at random, but everyone who enters will get a $20.00 e-gift card that can be applied to any watch on the JORD website!
What unique gift will you be giving for Father’s Day this year?

“You put yourself last and everyone else ahead of you.” I love this (and the watches too!).
Thanks so much Kelsea! My hubby was like “I’m sorry I didn’t have a more eloquent answer for you” and I’m like, “no, it’s the truth, it’s great!” 🙂
I also think a lot about time and how I spend it, with and without my family. Your words ring true to me, thank you for expressing them. I love the watch, my hubs would love it for father’s day.
Thanks so much Ashleigh. It always seems like you guys spend a lot of great time together on your adventures, but we probably all have room for improvement, huh?
