As you can imagine, with four children under the age of seven, we have gone through a lot of diapers over the years. And since my eldest daughter was born in 2012 I’ve almost always had two children in diapers at once.
With all my kid and diaper knowledge gleaned over time I’ve learned that you always want to be prepared.
Always.
Let me just say again, always be prepared. Underline, yellow highlight.
You never want to find yourself out running errands without a clean diaper. You also never want to find yourself not within arms reach of enough wipes because you’ve underestimated the power of your child’s bowel movements. Let’s just say, I’ve found myself in these situations more times than I’d like to admit.
Although I will be the first to advocate that you are the biggest expert on your child, please trust me when I say to listen to the advice from this mom of four—always be prepared. Today I’m going to share with you all the places I like to stash extra diapers, as well as some other tips from my six and a half years of diaper purchasing.
1.Stock up// This is absolutely number one. Do some calculations and figure out where the best deal is near you and stock up. For us, one of our favorite places to go is Costco. Not only do they carry the exclusive Huggies Little Snugglers Plus (they now carry sizes newborn through 2) and Little Movers Plus (sizes 3 through 6) that are the softest and most absorbent Huggies diapers with Leak Lock® with up to 12 hour protection; but they also have some of the best prices!
2. Identify your changing spots// Walk through your house and determine where you change diapers the most. In our house we have two main diaper changing spots—one is in the girls’ room at their changing table, and one is in the family room. We used to change diapers in my son’s bedroom too when my youngest was sleeping in there (he’s a deeper sleeper so he was doing better with nighttime wakings). I always make sure these two areas have plenty of diapers in both current sizes and wipes.
3. Keep your bag full// I always try and remember to carry two diapers of each size and plenty of wipes in my diaper bag. That way, not only do I know I have enough, but I can also help other mommas out who might be in need.Usually, whether we’re out for a quick park trip, or we’re out for a long day of errands we’re probably going to be okay. But just in case we do need more diapers while we’re out, I have my secret weapon for you…
4. Have a “Be Prepared” bag// When my son was going through potty training I started carrying a bag in my car with an extra diaper, extra underwear, and extra shorts. Over time I started keeping a couple other items in my “Be Prepared” bag and now I feel like I’m always ready, even if my diaper bag somehow fails me!
To assemble your own “Be Prepared” bag all you need is:
- A quart sized and gallon sized disposable bag
- A pair of shorts
- A pair of underwear (if you’re dealing with potty training)
- 1-2 extra diapers per child
- Wipes
- Snacks
Once you’ve stocked up on Huggies Plus diapers from Costco you’ll have plenty to stash everywhere so you’re always prepared. To help you stock up here’s a great deal for you, even if you don’t live near a Costco location! Huggies Little Snugglers Plus (Sizes 1 & 2) – $37.49, $31.49 after $6 discount and Free shipping (this offer valid 9/1 to 9/25); and Little Movers Plus (Size 3, 4, 5, & 6) – $42.99, $36.99 after $6 discount and Free shipping (this offer valid 9/1 –to 9/25).
Do you have any diaper advice? Where do you make sure to keep some?

This is such a great post! I love the idea of having a be prepared bag. There are many times when one would have been super convenient!
Thank you so much! And yes, ours gets a lot of use!
We just potty trained the triplets, so my diaper days are over, but I definitely agree with you about being prepared! #client
Potty training triplets, well that sounds like a lot of fun. 😉
AMEN! Every single day I’m still shocked at the amount my child can poop 😉 lol.
Yes, my one year old is the same way! Le sigh.
I still have a bag that goes everywhere with us. I don’t ever want to be left with a mess.
Being prepared is a must as a mom for sure!
Yes on the stocking up!!! I only ran out once and it was awful!
And we don’t live super close to a major store so we really can’t afford to run out!
So much great advice!! Def need to stock up!
Thanks so much!
being prepared is a must! I was out running errands with Parker last week and she had a blowout. I had no wipes and no extra clothes! I used one of my husbands shirts that was in the car and we had a smelly ride home!
OH my gosh! That’s always one of those moments where i”m at a loss as to what to do at first and waste a few minutes just staring at the mess wondering how I got here in life. 😀 LOL
Identify your changing spots! ?? ain’t that the truth!!!
Haha, amen Melissa!
The be prepared bag is an absolute must in my house hold…even for me sometimes haha!
Haha, totally Elle!
Being prepared is definitely a must. I had no idea what I was getting into when Mila was first born and we headed out to dinner with only 1 diaper in the diaper bag (and no change of clothes). Biggest mistake ever. I definitely learned my lesson that night!!
Ugh, that’s the worst! They always make a mess whenever you’re not ready fr it, it’s like they know!
yes to all of this! I consider myself a Vet so I am ALWAYS prepared with double of everything !
Yes!
I don’t yet have little ones but solid advice to keep in mind for that special day!
Thanks Shane! 🙂
