We live in a lake community so we’re in and out of the water pretty much all summer long, which is awesome. The downside, however, is that for about four months our front porch is constantly strewn with various bathing suits, towels, and sand toys, not to mention the copious amount of sand that inevitably came home with us (seriously, how is there any sand left on the beach?!). This post was written as part of a collaboration with Flagology. All thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
This “before” picture is as real as it gets, and yes, it’s a big mess.
So I had two big problems I needed to solve:
- Something to hang wet things on.
- Something to wipe our sandy feet on.
I knew I wanted to address the first issue with an outdoor hanging rack, and I also knew I had plenty of pallet wood leftover to construct one!
While I was at it I figured I better also trim our overgrown Tea Rose Bush and put all the sand and water toys away in their proper place. I can’t tell you how much better it is having everything hanging up instead of tossed everywhere. I really don’t know why I didn’t do something like this sooner.
I do need your help now though, I can’t decide if I want to leave my new towel rack as-is, or paint and stain it like my son’s pallet wall. Thoughts?
Now that our porch is staying cleaner, I needed to address the second problem and help keep sand out of the house. But I didn’t want just any doormat, I had been on the lookout for something a little special. Enter Flagology, a company that makes cute doormats, as well as house flags and garden flags. When they contacted me about a collaboration I was so excited to get to work creating my own custom doormat for our front porch!
I fell in love with the weathered wood border on this doormat and loved designing the font and color for the inside portion! It was so easy to customize with their online designer and I was really pleased when it arrived and looked exactly like I was expecting it to. You can upload whole photos, or just use a monogram or name, like I did.
We’ve had it on our front porch for a few weeks now and is holding up great, plus my kids love our new “rug” and think that it’s “so pretty”, so win-win!

Cute home and doormat. I need to work on the outside of my home, it is too hot though.
