10 fun fall dates

10 fun fall dates

Table of Contents

As of today Fall is officially here! There is a lot that I will miss about Summer, but I am so excited for Fall weather, which is just perfect for spending time outside or cuddling with your special someone inside. I’m a big advocate for dating your spouse, but the Fall season is an especially great time to be going outside of our comfort zone of the typical dinner and movie date nights and enjoy the perfect weather with your sweetheart! Here are ten different ideas for fun fall dates.

10 fun fall dates

visit a pumpkin patch or a hay maze

I don’t know about you but around here pumpkin patches are already opened! That means you’ve got a whole month to enjoy picking out the perfect pumpkin or getting lost in a hay maze. Not sure if there’s a maze near you? Visit this website and do a search!

watch a movie at the drive-in

It’s true that drive-ins seem to be going the way of the dodo bird, but there are still several out there and you might not even know how close one is to you! I love drive-ins because most of them allow you to bring in your own food and even might let you bring a small grill to cook up something tasty while you watch your film! Check out this website to see if there’s one near you!

cook a meal outside together

With Fall comes the perfect weather for outdoor cooking. It’s not too hot, there’s a little chill in the air so it’s nice if you can be near a bonfire, and bugs typically aren’t an issue. Whether you’re cooking simple hot dogs on a stick or making some gourmet foil wrapped dinners, nothing tastes better then food you’ve cooked outside over an open fire.

go on a picnic

If you can’t actually cook outside, just pack up a picnic and go for a drive! Maybe even surprise your sweetheart with one and don’t tell them where you’re going!

have a pumpkin carving night

When you’re an adult sometimes you can forget how much fun the simple things are, like carving out a pumpkin. Pick a favorite scary (or fun) movie and enjoy a night carving out pumpkins while watching the perfect Fall flick.

visit a haunted attraction

So many theme parks at this time of year have special decorations, shows, and attractions to celebrate the Fall season. There are also lots of haunted walkthroughs that pop up everywhere. Just pick your level of scariness that you feel like participating in and have fun! Check out some scary theme park fun in this blog post!

go camping or glamping

If you can get away for a night or two, why not go camping? Fall weather is usually perfect for camping and the crowds usually aren’t as bad. We’re big fans of national parks, but see where you can go near you!

give geocaching a try

If you’ve never gone geocaching before it is really simple! I signed up with geocaching.com  and downloaded the free app (which is really saying something because I am super selective with apps on my phone).

visit an apple orchard

Whether you visit a pick-your-own apple orchard, or just a place where you can go and sample delicious apple treats, nothing says “fall” quite like visiting an orchard. Bonus, you will get some great pictures to share on Instagram, wink wink.

go stargazing

When’s the last time you went stargazing? Never? Why not grab a thermos of hot chocolate and a warm blanket and get away from the city lights! This is fun all year but is especially great to add to your list of fall dates because of the perfect weather!

Great ideas! I love the suggestion to visit a apple orchard. I love spending time outside during fall…because I know winter is coming. A day at an apple orchard sounds perfect!

Stargazing is so fun in the fall! It’s just cool enough that you have an excuse to get cozy but not so cold that you freeze. Love this list!

    • Justine @ Little Dove September 30, 2016 at 6:19 am #

And it’s something I was realizing I haven’t done for awhile! Agree about snuggling but not being freezing!

These are all fun ideas! I especially love the picnic idea – gotta enjoy the nice weather before the snow makes it impossible 🙂 Your hubby is so sweet for wearing clothes instead of scrubs by the way 😉

Haha! He’s so funny! He’s learning to just roll with my crazy blog requests. 😉

Love the idea of a pumpkin carving night – we always do it with the kids, but a nice bottle of wine and no distractions might result in some pretty awesome decoration for our porch! Thanks for the ideas – great blog! Lisa

    • Justine @ Little Dove September 30, 2016 at 6:23 am #

Thanks so much! I have a friend who carves with her kids before bed, then once they’re asleep her and her husband put on a movie and carve their own!

    • Justine @ Little Dove September 30, 2016 at 6:24 am #

I know, we don’t live super close to one anymore, which is sad because we used to go all the time!

  11. Whitney September 22, 2016 at 12:53 pm #

We had stargazing on our summer list and it just didnt happen, silly really as the sky is just right above us lol. Im so glad you guys enjoy geocaching! Fall is the perfect time to go. And now I have to check and see if there is a drive-in theater by us 🙂

    • Justine @ Little Dove September 30, 2016 at 6:26 am #

I’m the same way though, it’s like blowing bubbles and coloring with chalk are always the last summer bucket list items we do, even though they’re the easiest!!

These are great date ideas! My husband has been wanting to go stargazing for years; this should be the year we go! Pinning for later 🙂

I love these ideas! We actually live about 10 minutes away from a drive in theater! We need to go again soon.

Such fun ideas!!! We just went camping last weekend . I can’t wait to give the rest of these a try

    • Justine @ Little Dove September 30, 2016 at 6:29 am #

Love camping! Although honestly, lately that’s been more of a family date. 😉

  16. Krista Nile September 22, 2016 at 5:17 pm #

We carved pumpkins together on one of our very first dates! I’m not the biggest fan of doing it but my husband is so I always carve a pumpkin with him every year!

    • Justine @ Little Dove September 30, 2016 at 6:30 am #

Haha, I know what you mean. Usually by the time I get the kiddos’ cleaned out and carved, I really have lost all desire to do mine.

  17. Jessica Lynn September 22, 2016 at 7:13 pm #

I used to LOVE geocaching, but haven’t done any in years; I need to get back into it—that’d be excellent date night material! Same with the drive-in idea. We finally live in a place where they have some 🙂 Maybe we’ll do that for our next date. Geocaching and a movie!

    • Justine @ Little Dove September 30, 2016 at 6:31 am #

That would be fun! Maybe they’ll be one near the theater. I know there are a TON by us!

  21. Jacki September 23, 2016 at 6:23 am #

My husband and I went to an adult pumpkin carving gathering a couple years ago. That was really fun!

    • Justine @ Little Dove September 30, 2016 at 6:35 am #

So fun! We did that years ago before we had kids and had such a great time!

  22. Lauren September 23, 2016 at 6:51 am #

Pumpkin picking and carving is a great little “family” date! Though I am always a little embarrassed by my pumpkin when I see my husband’s creation. 😉

  23. megan September 23, 2016 at 7:51 am #

Oh, the drive-in. I always forget about the drive-in, I haven’t been there since I was a kid. That is such a great idea.

  24. Angela September 23, 2016 at 2:43 pm #

We love the drive in. I really want to go to an orchard!! It sounds like so much fun!

  25. Tabitha September 23, 2016 at 6:35 pm #

These are great ideas! The hubs and I are always on the lookout for kid friendly free dates so we may steal a few of these!

  26. Emily September 25, 2016 at 8:01 pm #

My husband and I went on a few camping trips early on in our relationship, so I LOVE that idea!! xo

I love the pumpkin carving date night idea! That’s always fun! This post makes me excited for fall!

  29. Christine August 21, 2017 at 9:55 pm #

What fun ideas! I especially love all the outside activities- such a perfect time of year for them!

  30. Ashley Newell August 21, 2017 at 11:04 pm #

I don’t think we do anything different in the fall than in the other seasons. We probably need to start thinking outside the box some more.

  31. Caity August 22, 2017 at 8:00 am #

Yay fall! I’m so pumped for a little bit cooler weather. Hubs and I do many of these things (camping, drive-ins, etc.), but I haven’t done much fall-related with him, such as pumpkins. (P.S. your star-gazing link says events for 2016, just thought you might want to correct that ;))

  32. Mary Leigh August 24, 2017 at 12:38 pm #

Love these ideas and that they are all so simple! We always try to get out to a pumpkin patch, but I really want to pick apples this year, too!

  33. Shani | Sunshine & Munchkins August 30, 2017 at 8:22 am #

This is such a fun and simple list! Sometimes the thing that stops us from following through on date night is that we try to make it too complicated, when all we really need to do is focus on spending time together. Thanks for the ideas!
