Happy December 1st friends! I have been looking forward to today for awhile. Not just because December is officially here and Christmas is right around the corner. But also because I get to share with you the #LIGHTtheWORLD campaign. This campaign is encouraging people to serve as the Savior did, “in 25 ways over 25 days”. It is something that is organized every year by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
what to do with your #LIGHTtheWORLD service advent
I have 24 different things on my list so it would work perfectly with an advent calendar, such a great way to shift your focus this season! As I compiled this list I tried to think of things that wouldn’t take a lot of planning; things that would mean something to someone without being something that just added more stress to your holiday season. On this list you’ll find things as simple as going out of your way to hold a door open for someone, paying it forward (for example, paying for a person’s toll behind you), and letting a loved one sleep in (I’d like that act of service performed for me, please!). I also tried to think of service that the whole family could be involved in, down to your youngest.

Opportunities to shine surround us each day. As we follow the example of the Savior, ours will be the opportunity to be a light in the lives of others, whether they be our own family members and friends, our co-workers, mere acquaintances, or total strangers.”
-Thomas S. Monson
One of my favorite items I included is “just show up”. How often do we say to someone, “let me know if you need anything”? Sure, we might whole-heartedly mean it, but how often do we actually get a chance to serve that way? I don’t know about you, but I rarely reach out to my sweet friends to let them know when I need something. So one day, just show up with a meal, some cleaning supplies, or just a listening ear.

This is a wonderful idea and a great way to remember to give service. We do something similar with our church women we draw names for. All about giving service.
This is a lovely campaign for any time of year! A small act of kindness or service can make a huge difference in someone’s day. LOVE your explanation of “just show up.”
I love this list you came up with! We have been coming up with ideas for serving others, one of them is to make treats and bring them to friends/acquaintances!
I absolutely love this idea! We just got an elf this year and I want to have him help inspire kindness in my children and I think some of these ideas would be great to implement! Thanks for sharing!
Playing catch-up! I’ve been traveling and have gotten so behind. Oh how I love this. I’m a bit late, but still printing this out. Thank you for sharing!
Love love love this idea! Just pinned and I’m printing to include some of these in our advent calendar activities. Such great ideas! Thanks for sharing!
