Here’s the thing about yellow–it’s one of my favorite colors but you wouldn’t know it. I’m not generally a fan of yellow-hued decor so you won’t find it in my house. And it is really not a flattering color on me so I don’t think I own a single piece of yellow clothing. However, it’s such a happy color I wanted to incorporate it in some way. That’s how I thought of this easy letterboard update I want to share with you today.
letterboard update with spray paint
I have so many letterboards (I might have a small problem) and so many letters for my boards, that I thought it would be fun to give some a pop of color. I know you can buy the colorful plastic letters. But why buy new ones when I already own so many and even have some fluorescent yellow spray paint??

Of course, if you’ve ever ordered a letterboard then you know that the first order of business is cutting all the teeny tiny letters off their main framework. The first time I did this it seemed to take forever and I spread it out over a couple nights. This time around I had worked out a system and I knocked it out in one naptime sitting. Huzzah!
Once you have all your letters trimmed off then you need to prep your paint space. I would recommend that you find a large, old cardboard box. Then, as time consuming as it may sound, you’re going to want to poke holes in the bottom of the box (just small holes, they don’t need to go all the way through) and then push the tabs on the backside of the letters through them. This will protect the tabs from getting spray paint on them, which you definitely don’t want. If you get paint on the tabs you will risk paint getting rubbed off on your felt. Ask me how I know, oy vey.

Apply several thin layers of spray paint on your letters so they get evenly covered and don’t get paint drips on them. Make sure that your letters are thoroughly dry before you use them on your boards! If you did get any overspray on your letter tabs then you can easily scrape it off with your fingernail.
I love the fun pop of color!
