I recently participated in a date night box swap and it was so much fun! The premise of this swap was that you get paired up with someone you don’t know and over the course of several weeks you get to know them through email and social media. Then at the end of the swap you send each other a date night themed box of goodies! I’m a big fan of date nights so this was especially fun for me. This vacation-themed date night post contains affiliate links, all opinions are my own.

My partner was Elizabeth from Our Darling Adventure (she no longer blogs). I had so much fun getting to know her! She definitely wins in the swap buddy department. When we opened up her box I was blown away by her thoughtfulness and creativity! Elizabeth put together a whole date box themed around Hawaii and it was so much fun diving into! She even packed everything in with a couple of floral leis, which just added to my excitement when we opened it up.

Elizabeth included one of her favorite romantic comedy (aka. chick flick), 50 First Dates. It was perfect because not only do Mike and I love it also, but somehow we don’t own it yet! Of course, what’s a movie without snacks? She included two different recipes and the ingredients for a sweet and savory Hawaiian popcorn mix, so fun and delicious! There were a few other goodies in the box too, including chocolate covered macadamia nuts… yum…

other vacation-themed date night ideas

It got me thinking about how clever it was to theme a date night around a specific location, especially a fun date night you could have at home (sometimes with little ones that’s a must!). Much like planning my color-themed date night back in June, I started thinking about other date nights that could go with the vacation/location theme:

New York

Watch a movie that takes place in NYC and have some New York style pizza. Make your own caramel apples for dessert (because it’s the Big Apple, get it?).

Italy

Learn how to make your own pasta at home! If you don’t have your own pasta maker there are several recipes that don’t require you to have one. Don’t forget to pop in a movie like Under the Tuscan Sun.

France

Borrow a French book from the library and practice a few phrases while you have your own cheese tasting. Afterwards you can enjoy some sweet crepes for dessert. French Kiss would be a fun movie to watch for this one.

San Francisco

Ah, the city by the bay. Make some clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls at home and then enjoy some Ghirardelli chocolates for dessert.

What kind of a vacation-themed date night would you want to have?

One Christmas I gave my husband the present of a year of dates traveling around the world. It was SO fun each month to plan a “trip” to a new country. I’d make food that connected and we’d do an activity or watch a movie that took place there. We haven’t done Hawaii though! This looks great!
