Year of Color, November, Orange, fudge recipe

milk chocolate caramel fudge

Chocolate and caramel are one of the best flavor combos, if you ask me. I added some orange baking chips to the top, purely for looks. I definitely love the look of these thick, orange and brown fudge squares on a dessert plate. What neighbor wouldn’t love to receive some of these during the holidays? In fact, you could add a more seasonal color to the top. Maybe swirls of red and green–or white chocolate with some festive sprinkles?

But, can I be honest and tell you what I really wish I had done now?? I wish that instead of just drizzling orange-colored baking chocolate on top that I had actually used orange-flavored chocolate instead. Because caramel, milk chocolate, and orange?? Oh my goodness, that would have been so delicious! It would be like a caramel-filled chocolate orange, who wouldn’t like that?! So tuck that in your back pocket, make it happen, let me know, m’kay?

caramel milk chocolate fudge
Course: Dessert
Author: Justine @ Little Dove
Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cans caramel sweetened condensed milk if you can’t find caramel use plain
  • 24 oz good quality milk chocolate chips 2 regualar bags or 1 large bag
  • 12 oz orange colored baking chips, divided
  • 12 oz caramel flavored baking chips
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp orange extract (optional)
Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan over low heat stir together 1 1/2 cans of caramel sweetened condensed milk and milk chocolate chips. Continuously stir so it doesn’t burn or lump. Remove from heat and add in 1/2 tsp of salt.
  2. At the same time, in a second medium saucepan over low heat, stir together 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, caramel chips, and 1/2 of the orange baking chips. Continuously stir so it doesn’t burn or lump. Remove from heat and add in 1/2 tsp of salt.
  3. Pour milk chocolate into a buttered 9 x 13″ pan, then cover with caramel layer.
  4. Melt the remaining orange colored chips in the microwave according to package directions. If you are planning on using orange extract, add in once the orange baking chips are melted and smooth. Drizzle over the caramel layer and run a knife through the top to marbleize fudge.
  5. Allow to cool and harden, placing in the refrigerator for a few hours will speed up the process.
Recipe Notes

To cut down on the richness of this fudge you could replace some or all of the milk chocolate with semi-sweet chocolate. If you are going to do that, start with 1 can of sweetened condensed milk and add more as needed.
