Since February is the month of love it only seemed appropriate that I plan a fun, rom-com inspired blog post! I decided to have my husband help me pick this month’s movie. I’m pretty happy with the choice we came up with. For me, music is a big part of what makes a movie good. A great soundtrack can really make or break it for me, so we picked a fun, song-centered romantic comedy that we both love! Some links contain affiliates, all opinions are my own.

featured rom-com: The Wedding Singer

I love The Wedding Singer because it’s got some great music and fun references that brings me back to my childhood in the 80’s and early 90’s. I grew up belting out Duran Duran and Bruce Springsteen while listening to cassette tapes on road trips, so 80’s music has a special place in my heart!

The Wedding Singer stars Adam Sandler as wanna-be rockstar Robbie Hart. Sadly his rock band days are behind him and now he has ended up being a wedding singer instead. After getting jilted by the love of his life on his wedding day he turns a little dark. By dark I mean he sings a song that he wrote himself… it does NOT end well, lol. Then he decides he can’t sing at weddings anymore. That is, until he meets his new love interest, Drew Barrymore’s character Julia. However, there’s a problem there too… just in case you haven’t seen it I don’t want to give too much away. If you haven’t seen this yet cuddle up with your sweetheart for your next at-home movie night and enjoy!

epic 80’s playlist

To go along with this rom-com I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite 80’s songs! I love these for singing along in my car or for working out while I get some me time. I also think that it would make a really fun date night to have a “name that tune” type of competition, while you enjoy some retro 80’s candy, of course. So here they are, from love ballads to rock anthems and everything in between, some of my favorite 80’s songs in absolutely no particular order.

belt these out

Total Eclipse of the Heart, Bonnie Tyler

Every Breath You Take, The Police

Time After Time, Cyndi Lauper

With Or Without You, U2

Hello, Lionel Richie

Keep on Lovin’ You, REO Speedwagon

Beat It, Michael Jackson

Livin’ On A Prayer, Bon Jovi

Hungry Like The Wolf, Duran Duran

Eye of the Tiger, Survivor

Africa, Toto

Don’t Stop Believin’, Journey

Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), Eurythmics

You Spin Me Round, Dead or Alive

Flashdance (What a Feeling), Irene Cara

I Love Rock n’ Roll, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

I only lived through the last 2 months of the 80s, but these songs were my childhood!! Love! And somehow I’ve never seen the wedding singer! I need to get on that.

Amazing list! I’m a 1985-er, too 🙂 Whenever I hear the song Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper, I can’t help but think of the ridiculous dance from Romy and Michelle’s High School Renunion.

Alright – so many nostalgic tunes are running through my head – hard to believe that the 80s were over 30 years ago (What???). But I don’t feel old enough to say that (!!!). =) Fun post – thanks for inviting the conversation …and the smiles =) xo Evelyn, PathofPresence.com
