what is Earth Day?

Gaylord Nelson (the Governor of Wisconsin) proposed Earth Day in 1969. Governor Nelson saw the energy behind the anti-war movement from certain segments of the population at the time. He wanted to bring that same energy and awareness to being more conscious of air and water pollution. Earth Day was recognized as an American holiday until 1990. At that point it changed to being celebrated on a global scale with 200 million people in 141 countries taking part.

why do outdoor scavenger hunts?

I love incorporating outside time into our homeschool lessons whenever I can. Combine that with how much my little ones love going on scavenger hunts outdoors. That makes one of these outdoor scavenger hunts the perfect activity to do when you need to switch things up! Today I wanted to share with you a few different scavenger hunts that you can do with your own kids. Start this weekend to celebrate Earth Day and continue all summer long!

This is such a good idea! Our printer is broken right now (*insert sad face*) so I can’t print these off, but I definitely want to use them this spring and summer for my kids so I guess I’ll just do it the old fashioned way and write it out, haha 😉
