Hey everyone! Justine here with a friendly PSA that we are only about a week away from the birthday of The Boy Who Lived. That’s right, we celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday in our house and what better way to celebrate than with some edible Harry Potter wands?

We love the Harry Potter franchise in our house. So it’s fun for us to “celebrate” his birthday–really it’s just an excuse to eat cake and watch a movie together as a family. I’ve already shared a tasty and simple butterbeer recipe with y’all, but today I have another sweet treat. There is so much great inspiration for recipes in the Harry Potter series (chocolate frogs anyone?) but I wanted to do something else. I also thought it would be neat to make something that the kids could help with. I quickly realized that edible wands would be really easy to make, and even more fun to eat!

how to make edible Harry Potter wands

Have you ever realized how much licorice looks like a wand? And since they come in fun colors and flavors it’s easy to set up a DIY wand station. That way everyone can make one their own wizard wand. They say the wand chooses the wizard… which flavor speaks to your little witch or wizard?

For our wand making station I set out three different flavors of licorice along with some different chocolate for dipping. You can also include sprinkles for a little more customization and bling on your wand. My kids had a great time decorating these and they would be the perfect addition to a Harry Potter movie night!

Which Harry Potter movie is your favorite? What kind of Harry Potter wands would you make?

We love Harry Potter too.My favorite Harry Potter movie is Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince, but my oldest loves Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. We celebrate Harry’s birthday with a movie marathon during the week of his birthday.

How cool! I love that they are not your traditional pretzel sticks.

Cute idea! So fun to have a movie themed snack. Because it is so popular, I’m embarrassed to say we have never watched a Harry Potter movie. We’ve been on the rides at Universal Studios, lol, but never read the books or watched the movie.

I love that you used licorice sticks for these instead of pretzels!
