I love holidays! Any excuse to decorate or make fun and festive treats is all right by me. The patriotic summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day) are no different. I wanted to come up with some type of festive treat that we could have this summer. But it had to be something really simple that we could whip up quickly. Knowing how much my kids love ice pops and the fact that we always have them in our freezer in abundance the idea for this patriotic pop punch was born.
make summer special but simple
Like I said, holidays are a big deal around here. Independence Day is especially special. Our neighborhood goes big for this patriotic day with a parade, craft fair, food and activity booths, and a big firework display once the sun goes down. Add in the swim party that our church hosts every year and our holiday gets full pretty fast. It’s such a fun day and one that the kiddos look forward to all year, but I’ve noticed the last couple years it really doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for our own traditions.

patriotic punch
I used a diet lemon-lime soda because diet soda is the only kind we drink in our house. Of course you can use any kind of pop you like. Then I simply broke up some ice pops in red and blue colors and added them to the cups of soda, that’s it! Super simple (my favorite kind of “recipe”) but still really fun for the kids to enjoy. Plus, I think this would taste just as delicious if not better if you used popsicles or even frozen fruit pops instead of ice pops in the soda! The nice thing about this recipe is also that you probably have both ingredients on hand already!

One Response to how to make patriotic pop punch
What a fun idea! My kids would love this and we probably already have the stuff to make it! We are going to see fireworks on the 4th, not sure how we will spend the day though. Still in the planning stages.
