Did you know that Jaws is considered to be the first summer blockbuster? It was released in 1975. Jaws was such a hit that even though production went over budget it was able to recoup its expenses in two weeks. Two weeks! Since it’s such an iconic summer film I thought it would be perfect to share for this months’ edition of Movie Club Monday. I’ll be sharing a simple recipe for shark bite shakes so don’t swim away. have fun this Shark Week
Jaws
The movie Jaws is based on a novel by the same name that came out in 1974. Can you believe the film was released the following year?! Production went long and way over budget. Actors weren’t who producers and directors originally wanted. Accidents happened on set–and a hundred other things went wrong during filming. When John Williams first played the iconic Jaws theme for Steven Spielberg, Spielberg thought it was a joke. But the story of a giant, man-eating shark terrorizing a small seaside town has been the inspiration for several other shark horror films. It also continues to scare people out of the water today.
I’m sure even if you haven’t seen it before you’re familiar with the story. Even so, I encourage you to watch it for your next movie night! It’s so interesting to see how far special effects have come. Yet, even without the power of CGI, Jaws was still able to captivate and terrorize audiences.
shark bite shakes
At first I wasn’t sure what to do for a Jaws-inspired blog post. Then I thought about the gummy shark candies and knew that they would be perfect in some crazy shark shakes. Originally I had planned to use blue bubblegum ice cream, but I couldn’t find any bubblegum ice cream at the store. It would have given the shake a more ocean-y appearance. No worries though, because this strawberry and blueberry shake has a sweet tangy flavor that’s the perfect combo!
- 6 scoops strawberry ice cream
- 1` cup frozen blueberries
- 2 cups milk (I used nonfat)
- 1 handful cupcake flavored goldfish crackers (optional)
-
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and garnish with blue cotton candy, gummy sharks, and more cupcake flavored goldfish crackers.
Have you seen Jaws? What’s your favorite flavor milkshake?

This is such a creative idea! Who knew you could be so nifty with a shark theme plus I’m a sucker for anything involving ice cream
This is so fun! I’ll admit I’ve never seen Jaws but it’s definitely a summertime classic. As for my favorite flavor of shake, I have a few I love and it just depends on what I’m in the mood for: chocolate banana, mint oreo, PB cookie dough, raspberry… basically I just love shakes, haha.
I love this movie club monday theme! So fun and so creative! That shakes looks and sounds so good!
