Halloween fun in northern California

Table of Contents

It’s October 1st and as of about a week ago, it’s officially Fall! With Fall comes Halloween and as a kid I loved everything associated with the holiday. The costumes, the candy, the pumpkins–what’s not to like?? If you’re in the northern California area you’re in luck because there is plenty of Halloween fun to be had! There’s something for everyone–whether you have timid littles or a thrill-seeking crowd. This post is in collaboration with Pumpkin Nights. As always, all opinions are completely my own.

Six Flags Fright Fest

This isn’t technically just a northern California exclusive event. Since Six Flags has their Fright Fest at their locations all over the country you can visit lots of places! If you have a mixture of big and little kids Fright Fest is perfect because it’s tame during the day, but once the sun dips below the horizon things take a turn. Festivities are included in your theme park ticket. However, if you want to go in any of the mazes it will cost you extra. Even if you don’t want to spend cash on extras, you can still get your heart rate up by walking through scare zones. Just be sure to keep your little ones out of them after dark!

Bishops Pumpkin Farm

Our first Fall living in Auburn I lost track of how many people asked me if we’d been to Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm yet. Luckily, we made sure to listen to their advice and took a drive out to Wheatland to experience it. We’ve been going every year since! Admission to this over-the-top pumpkin patch is free, although they do charge for parking on the weekends. The hay ride out to the pick-your-own pumpkin fields is must. In the fields you’ll find assorted varieties if you make it out early enough in the season. There are some great play areas for kiddos to get their energy out too. There are also plenty of opportunities to spend money on delicious treats or extra fun (like a train ride or petting zoo).

Winchester Mystery House

You may have heard about the famous Winchester Mystery House located in San Jose or seen the movie, but if you haven’t made a visit in person then you’re missing out on some spooky history! It’s true that you can visit any time of year. However, everything seems a little more scary during this frightful season, doesn’t it? Plus, during the fall the Winchester Mystery House offers an array of special events. If you’re in the area this is a must-see during the Halloween season. Be sure to check online for a full schedule of events and to purchase tickets before you arrive.

Jellystone Park

You know I love to talk about our visits to Jellystone Park. Did you know they’re open all year round? Camping might seem like something you associate with summertime. However, I want you to keep an open mind. Jellystone has all sorts of activities planned for their Halloween-themed weekends all season long! With trick-or-treating, Halloween movies, and more you won’t be bored! You can check their website out for a full list of events.

Pumpkin Nights

In 2017 my family was able to attend the first year of Pumpkin Nights being held in Auburn, California. Pumpkin Nights is a Halloween event like no other. With over 3,000 carved pumpkins, seasonal treats, special shows, and fun movie screenings there’s something for the whole family to enjoy. Pumpkin Nights comes to different cities every year. Check out their website for this year’s locations!
