I can’t even believe that baby girl is almost 9 months old. That means the first birthday is right around the corner, then preschool, then college… maybe I’m getting a little ahead of myself. However, any parent will tell you how quickly the first year flies by! Expect for all those sleepless nights, of course. During this whirlwind first year of your baby’s life there are a lot of firsts that typically call for gift giving. A first Christmas, Easter, birthday… the list goes on. Plus, we all know that everyone just loves buying babies gifts, right? Well, I don’t know about you but I’m kind of up to my eyeballs in stuff. So here are some ideas for practical gifts for a baby’s first year of life. This post is in partnership with Moms Meet and contains affiliate links, all opinions are my own.
practical gifts for baby’s first year
Bordeaux’s butt paste®
Yes, it’s the practical gift with the funny name but Bordeaux’s® works. I’ve used it for years and I love it. Bordeaux’s seems to provide relief for my little ones while helping to heal their rash faster. Their new Rash Kicking Kits™ even include an applicator Butt Brush™ to spread the paste on the problem area–because we all know how messy that can be! Package some Bordeaux’s® up with a package of diapers and parents will be singing your praises come diaper change time!
diapers
The one thing that a baby will always need their first year of life is more diapers. Diapers can really add up because you go through so many that first year! Plus, you always seem to run out at the worst possible time. Talk about practical gifts for baby’s first year!

binxy baby shopping cart hammock
I honestly don’t know how I made it so long without a Binxy Baby Shopping Cart Hammock. I wish I had had one with all of my kids! If you’re a parent that goes shopping with two or more young children, it’s a must. It gives you so much more room in your cart while keeping your little one safe and secure. Plus, your baby can use it with or without their car seat so it really is ideal for those first 8 or 9 months before your baby can safely sit up on their own.
baby mum-mums
It’s so nice to be able to hand my little one a snack when she starts fussing in her car seat or jumper. Baby Mum-Mum snacks are some of our favorites because you can start them really early and they’re not messy at all. So stock up because these snacks make great stocking stuffers or basket fillers (or Halloween treats!) for little ones!
socks
I know, I know, socks?! However, we’ve got to keep the dryer monster well fed in our house so socks are always in need. Apparently. I’ll admit, my baby didn’t wear any socks for the first six months. Now that the weather has turned chilly though I’m realizing I need more! Baby’s seem to lose them easily so order a few pairs that are neutral and will go with anything.
leg warmers
I love to put my little ones in leg warmers, especially if they’re crawling around. It helps keep them warm and helps protect their cute little knees while they’re crawling around. Knee high socks for girls are a great option too, taking care of two needs at once! If you’re obsessed with getting fun and cute gifts, there are few things cuter than a baby in leg warmers. So gift happily with the knowledge that you’re helping make a baby super cute and fashionable, wink wink.

moccasins
Baby moccasins are one of the few things that are cuter than leg warmers. I love the quality of Freshly Picked moccasins and the fact that they actually stay on my little ones’ feet. To be honest, I’m not a fan of shoes on babies, unless it’s cold or your little one is starting to walk. Soft soles are the next best thing to bare feet for early walkers.
babysitting coupons
Trust me when I say that this last one will not only be appreciated during the first year of life, but always. Brand new parents are usually in desperate need of a date night! Give them a babysitting voucher and the recipient will probably cry tears of joy and amazement. Not that I would know from personal experience or anything, ahem.

Such a great practical list! Things like butt paste and diapers and sock are always nice to receive. And I especially love the idea of the babysitting coupons, because let’s face it, most parents have a hard time finding babysitters for date night!
I think the Freshly Picked moccasins are my FAVORITE thing on this list. Wish I knew about them when my kids were babies.
The babysitting coupons are such a good idea! Loving all of your other ideas too – practical gifts are always a good idea!

These are great ideas! When my babies were little I focused on more practical gifts too. I loved socks as a gift!
I used to love leg warmers for my girls when they were babies. A coupon for free babysitting would be a fantastic gift!
I’ve always believed diapers is the most practical gift of all because diapers are expensive!! and babies use a lot of it.
For this age, you really list down practical ideas. It is the age where kids should get what they really need and get benefit from.
