Chances are you could be doing a little better when it comes to your child’s oral hygiene. How do I know? Because my husband is a dentist and even we struggle sometimes. Today I’ve got a free tooth brushing chart printable for you to help your kiddos form some good habits if they’re currently lacking! This post is in collaboration with Michael J. Young, DDS, Inc. located in Foresthill, California. All opinions and research are my own.
February is National Children’s Dental Health month so if you feel like you’ve been slacking in the brushing department with your kids now is the perfect time to turn it around!
Dr. Michael Young suggests that you assist your children with brushing their teeth until they’re 7 or 8 years old. “If they can tie their own shoes or write cursive than they can be taught to brush their own teeth–under supervision”. So make sure you’re assisting your children with their teeth brushing, especially when they’re young! Don’t be afraid to ask your dentist for tips when it comes to brushing your child’s teeth either, they often have helpful techniques that you can use at home.
form a habit with a tooth brushing chart
They used to say that it takes 21 days to form a habit. That seems doable, right? However, research actually shows that it takes about 66 days to form a habit–that’s more than two months! Print this tooth brushing chart up a couple times to establish a good brushing routine, or laminate it and use it month after month!
This charts simple design makes it so you can start on any day of the week. We’ve been using fun stickers for our chart, but you can also have your child color in one half of the date for their morning and evening tooth brushing.

66 days?? Wow, that’s a lot longer than 21 days. We still help my kids brush their teeth!
