This week Mike and I were able to attend a dress rehearsal for Broadway Sacramento at Music Circus’s rendition of The Drowsy Chaperone. It was not our first time at Music Circus. It wasn’t even our first show this season (we saw Shrek the Musical just a few weeks ago). But the magic of theater in the round never ceases to amaze me. Today I want to share tips for saving money on Broadway shows when you attend Broadway Sacramento at Music Circus.

my review of the drowsy chaperone

Now that I’ve shared ways you can save money on the next Broadway show you attend, how about a review of the Drowsy Chaperone? It runs through this Sunday, July 14, so you can still purchase tickets! I didn’t know much about the show beforehand but I left with a new favorite musical to add to my list!

The Drowsy Chaperone is a unique musical because it’s actually a musical within a musical. It’s really a parody of American musical comedies of the 1920s. In this production Bruce Vilanch plays “Man in Chair”. He plays a record of his favorite 1928 (fictional) musical called The Drowsy Chaperone for the audience. As the musical plays in his living room (and on the stage for us) on he pauses at different points with background information–either about the characters or plot line.

Kaleigh Cronin plays Janet Van de Graaff in Broadway Sacramento at Music Circus’s performance of The Drowsy Chaperone. She absolutely shone on stage and had such a great connection with her fellow actors on stage. My favorite number of hers was probably “Show Off”. The number was so high energy and Cronin was wonderful in it! I truly don’t know where she found the energy.

Bruce Vilanch, Lynne Wintersteller, and Bradley Dean were hilariously delightful in their respective roles as “Man in Chair”, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Aldopho as well. Truly, if I had the time to mention everyone on the stage and their best moments I would!

The Drowsy Chaperone is a funny musical and the entire cast and crew of Broadway Sacramento at Music Circus does a good job of totally immersing you in the experience. I highly recommend it for a fun date night or girls night out!
