Fall might have just started but if you’re already dreaming of a tropical getaway for the upcoming winter might I suggest a cruise? Cruising is one of my favorite ways to travel for many reasons but one of them is the fashion. Where else is it perfectly acceptable to wear a swimsuit and cover up all day, then freshen up and get dressed to the nines for a formal dinner? Today I’m sharing some packing essentials for an epic cruise!

Cruise Packing Tips. Essentials for your cruise.

packing essentials

I’ve been on cruises in the Winter and in the Summer (well, late Spring but close enough). Cruises on the east coast and the west coast. I’ve been on small ships and large ships. Cruises with short itineraries and longer ones. One constant remains the same no matter what–my basic packing essentials. Today’s post isn’t about a long packing list of must-have items. I’ve checked out several and to be honest, I feel like most list way too many items. You’re going to be on a cruise ship–not a deserted Island. You don’t need to bring your whole household with you–and many cruise lines have a limit of how many bags each passenger can bring on board. But there are definitely a few things you’ll want to make sure you have!

aloe gel

Yep, definitely don’t want to forget this if you’ll be out in the sun a lot. Even if you’re super diligent about sunscreen you’ll probably still get a little red at some point. You can always buy from the ship but it will be a lot cheaper to bring it with you!

travel charger

If you’re out exploring all day or don’t want to leave the pool for a second bring a travel charger! They are not very expensive and it will be you best friend. Charge it over night with your phone and then take it with you on your adventures!

swim cover up

Obviously this a must if you’re planning to spend time at the pool or beach. Even if you don’t mind flaunting it all day, keep in mind that dining establishments on cruise ships have requirements. They require footwear and a cover-up before you step inside–even the buffet.

versatile clothing

I am ALL about versatile clothingand getting the most out of each piece. That’s one reason why I love dresses! They can be gussied up with heels and jewelry. They can also be kept simple for everyday wear with a tee knotted over it. Make sure the clothing pieces you’re bring coordinate with each other and have multiple uses. This way you’ll never run out of clothing to wear! Chambray shirts are also perfect to get more use out of your outfits!

sunglasses

It sounds obvious but on our last cruise I forgot to pack them because I keep them in my car. However, we drove my husband’s car down south to the cruise terminal in Long Beach. A quick stop was required because there was no way I was going on a sunny Mexican cruise without sunglasses! Again, you could always buy some on board but save your money for other more fun souvenirs instead!

small backpack/travel bag

Mike and I have a couple of small day hike backpacks we always travel. They might not be the most stylish but for their size you can really pack a lot in them! These are great for taking your sunscreen and book to the pool deck, or exploring on port days.

Great tips. A cruise is on our bucket list, now that our kids are older it’s looking like it might be able to happen sooner.
