I’ve mentioned on this blog before about how we handle our gifts for the holidays. There are three categories I think about when buying gifts for our family–something joyful, something meaningful, and something needful. The joyful gift is always pretty easy to figure out. The meaningful gift for the kiddos usually isn’t too hard either. In the past I’ve done everything from personalized lockets to books with their names. But every year I struggle with how to make a needful gift something fun and special they’ll be excited about. Today I’m sharing some practical gifts for kids that will get them just as excited as a new toy on Christmas morning. Some links in this post contain affiliates which provides me with a slight commission at no cost to you.
practical gifts for kids
extra special art supplies
I don’t know about you but my kids go through a ton of art supplies. It seems like they’re always coloring something or other. So, although I know they would enjoy getting new crayons and paper for Christmas, it’s also kind of an “ordinary” gift. Why not take something everyday and put a special twist on a practical gift for kids?
This Summer I collaborated with Nicole from Art 2 The Extreme. She makes the most beautiful and unique handmade crayons that would make the perfect gift! You could get your child’s name made into crayons, or even order them an incredible crayon-filled advent calendar! Crayons from Art 2 The Extreme would be a great way to turn a practical gift into something truly special.
a seat that does double-duty
I recently came across the Nugget play couch on Instagram and it quickly rose to the top of my wish list for my kids! If you’re not sure what a Nugget is than you’re missing out and it needs to get moved to your radar, stat.
I don’t know about you but my kids love building forts. I love that they are using their imaginations and thinking like little engineers. However, I don’t love the mess that it means. Every chair, bench, blanket, and pillow gets thrown together in a 10 foot square space and it drives me crazy. Especially since they never seem to want to clean up afterwards. The Nugget doubles as a couch and then when they’re ready all the pieces come apart to form the most epic fort ever! This is definitely on our wish list for our playroom makeover. Oh, and did I mention the covers are washable?!
new bedding that’s a win/win
I’ve worked with Beddy’s on a couple of different occasions and each time I fall in love even more. What’s even better is that my kids get excited too. There’s something special about receiving a package from Beddy’s! Their bedding is so gorgeous and the quality is phenomenal. Not only are they a breeze to change, but they’re easy for your little ones to make on their own!
Beddy’s even offers throw pillows, pajamas, and bundled sets that are discounted. Be sure to use the code LITTLEDOVE for a discount when ordering your Beddy’s! So not only are you getting a great practical gift for your little one, but you’re helping out your Christmas budget at the same time.
3 Responses to practical gifts for kids they’ll actually love
I love all of these gift ideas. My little girl loves clothes and shoes so giving her practical gifts is easy. My little boy loves reading so books are a practical gift we have given him before.
I like the idea of the 3 categories. These are great gift ideas too!
