The official start of Summer might still be a little over a month away but with Memorial Day this weekend I say bring it on! One of the best things about our new(ish) house is definitely the pool. I grew up with a swimming pool in the backyard and it’s always been my dream to give my kids the same experience. Of course, our pool isn’t heated and we probably won’t be able to swim in it without turning blue for a couple more months, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start planning all the Summer get togethers now! This DIY popsicle decoration is a fun, simple, and cheap addition to any pool party this Summer!
diy popsicle decoration
Last Summer at our Sunshine and Service pool party I tried to keep it simple. Admittedly, this can be hard for me. I have a tendency to want to do ALL THE THINGS–but I’m working on it. I wanted to do all the decor for this party myself but I wanted to keep it simple and keep the costs down. So I went to our local dollar store and picked up some foam pool noodles and kickboards. When I saw the kickboards in the store I thought to myself, “hey, those look a lot like popsicles!” And sure enough, with a little tweaking they make the perfect popsicle party decor!
materials needed:
- foam kickboards (from the dollar store)
- scrap cardboard cut to resemble Popsicle sticks
- good knife or scissors for cutting foam
- cutting mat
This is the seriously simplest DIY decoration ever! All you have to do is trim off the curved tips of the kickboard to make the flat bottoms of the popsicles. Then, carefully make slits in the bottom of the foam kickboards to slide the cardboard “popsicle sticks” into.

Fun! Love this idea! I actually had a popsicle themed baby shower, wish I had known about this!
