You might be surprised by how important oral health is to your overall health. Truth be told, before if I weren’t married to a dentist I probably wouldn’t have any idea the impact it can have. Today I’m sharing three super simple “tips” to have better oral health. It might not be the most exciting thing in the world but trust me–your mouth will thank you.

don’t sip on the sugar
You don’t necessarily have to say goodbye to sugar altogether, but keep it brief. Sipping on sugary drinks or sucking on sweet treats all day long can have an adverse affect on your teeth and gums. Rather, limit your sugar intake to a single session and brush afterwards when you can. Rinsing with water and chewing sugar-free gum (preferably sweetened with xylitol) can help keep those “sugar bugs” away while you’re on the go as well.

swish with LISTERINE® Gum Therapy Antiseptic Mouthwash
Using an ADA-accepted mouthwash like LISTERINE® Gum Therapy Antiseptic Mouthwash can make a big difference. Why? Because even the best brushers can easily miss spots. LISTERINE® Gum Therapy Antiseptic Mouthwash has been shown to clean below the gumline where brushing can’t reach. This can lead to four times healthier gums in just three weeks versus brushing alone. See? Having better oral health doesn’t have to take a lot of time–and you can even pick it up on your next Walmart run.

skip the daily grind and relax
On our very first date (which was a blind date, by the way) my now-husband asked me–“do you grind your teeth?” I sure did, but that wasn’t what I wanted a blind date to first notice about me! If you’re among the roughly 10% of people that grind their teeth (warning–you might not even realize you’re doing it!) then you should know that also can lead to major complications with your oral health. Try new methods to relax before bed or in stressful situations that trigger your teeth grinding. If the problem persists then see your dentist about a night guard to help protect your pearly whites.
