Happy first day of fall! I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a year like no other. Definitely not all bad, just different. Lots of our normal activities and events have been canceled or postponed And I know some of us have stronger feelings than others. That’s not what this post is about though. This post is about Halloween, and how you can still have an awesome holiday no matter what your situation is. So here are some fun and different ideas for celebrating a Halloween at home.

First of all, I fully support having the Halloween that you want! I am NOT advocating for staying at home and “canceling” Halloween, I am advocating for doing whatever seems best for your family! I just wanted to share some fun ideas in case your Halloween holiday needed to look a little different this year. Keep in mind that regulations are different throughout the country.

- Don’t forget your annual pumpkin patch visit! Visit early morning or during the week if possible to avoid crowds. Use this as an opportunity to have the kids wear their costumes and take some fun pictures!
- Plan a Halloween-themed “Easter egg” hunt! Hide candy in the yard and let the kids find it. Consider using some glow-in-the-dark spray paint on your Easter eggs!
- Go trunk-or-treating. There are several organizations that plan them, or organize your own if you have enough space! Never been trunk-or-treating before? Check out this post from Jessica at Blog About It All.
- Go reverse trick-or-treating. Package up some goody bags and drop them off at friends or family’s house–in costumes, of course! Let your kids decide if they want to do it anonymously or stop to say a quick “hi”.
- Do you have friends you’ve started to get together with? Plan a small party (preferably outside) with a pot luck and a couple piñatas.
- Visit a drive-through scare attraction. These have always been around but more and more are popping up this year. Simply search for “haunted drive through near me” online.
