how to make a diy Christmas wreath

I love the look of simple hoop wreaths. Most of the time you see oversized metal hoops being used. It’s a pretty look but I feel like that lends itself more to a modern vibe. Plus, it’s a little harder to find the metal hoops in store, although you can easily order them online. However, if you use an embroidery hoop as your wreath base you’ll get more of a rustic or homemade charm look. Bonus–embroidery hoops are easy to pick up on your next Walmart run if you can’t make it to a craft store.

diy Christmas wreath materials:
  • embroidery hoop (I suggest at least 10 inches)
  • pine or cedar trimmings
  • string, jute, twine, or hot glue
  • decorative ribbon for the top

I trimmed off three small branches of cedar boughs from tree trimmings for my hoop. I opened up the embroidery hoop slightly so I could stuff the branch (but not the needles) in between the two rounds of hoop. You can also use jute, twine, or string to help secure in a few places. If you are not concerned about being able to use your hoop again next year you could even use hot glue to secure the branches to the hoop. I prefer the asymmetrical look so my DIY Christmas wreath is heavier on one side.

Once your branches are secure to your hoop your DIY Christmas wreath is done! Just attach a decorative ribbon of choice to the top so you can hang it up. Then wait for all the admiration to come in from everyone that knocks on your front door, wink wink.
