Sometimes we don’t have to look very far to find an adventure. Honestly, the little weekend getaways we enjoy as a family are some of the most fun. They tend to be more laid back and don’t require as much planning on my part! A couple of weekends ago we went away to Reno for the night and had a blast. While there we were able to check out our new favorite family friendly hotel in Reno. Keep reading for all the perks of staying in the heart of downtown and what amenities Whitney Peak Hotel has to offer. This post in in partnership with Whitney Peak Hotel. All opinions are my own. family friendly hotel located in the heart of Reno
location, location, location
All the times we’ve been to Reno before we’ve never stayed right downtown. I thought it would be fun to stay right in the hustle and bustle of Reno and I was right! Whitney Peak Hotel is located right next to the iconic Reno arch on The ROW. You can easily walk to many of the other hotel and casinos in the area without having to get in your car. Our rooms were on the 16th floor and my kids loved looking out the windows at the neon lights and people watching!
These family-friendly attractions are within 2 miles of the Whitney Peak Hotel:
- Wingfield Park at the Reno Riverwalk
- The Discovery – Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum
- National Automobile Museum
- Circus Circus Carnival Midway
- Rose Garden at Idlewild Park

a boutique hotel experience
As much fun as it is to visit Reno as a family, there are some things we don’t like. For instance, I don’t like the overwhelming smell of smoke that permeates from most hotels and casinos. I also sometimes feel like I’m inconveniencing other guests when I walk in with my crazy crew in tow. Whitney Peak Hotel is a great family friendly hotel in Reno because it’s Reno’s first and only non-gaming and non-smoking hotel!
stay in their Club Level rooms
While we stayed at Whitney Peak Hotel we were able to experience their Club Level Rooms. These were adjoining rooms on the 16th floor–a two Queen room and King suite. Our family of eight had plenty of room, including a dedicated sitting area and kitchenette. Not only were the rooms beautiful but the view out the windows of the snow-capped mountains and Reno neon lights were incredible. The rooms were also very quiet, despite the hustle and bustle of the city right outside. Club Level Rooms also come with access to the Club Lounge where you can enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks in the evening and a continental breakfast in the morning.

unique amenities and activities
The first thing that attracted me to Whitney Peak Hotel was their Base Camp Climbing gym. Though the 7,000 square foot indoor bouldering facility is open to anyone, guests at the hotel to receive a significant discount. There’s also a separate kids room and an outdoor climbing wall that hold the Guinness World Record for tallest artificial climbing wall!

It was so nice to be find a fun activity to do indoors. Reservations are currently required to promote social distancing but we lucked out and were able to get into a time slot when we walked in. There are also several hand sanitizing stations placed throughout the facility and masks must be worn. They also have an adjacent workout room and steam and sauna facilities.
unforgettable photo ops
Whitney Peak Hotel is truly a special place that has been very thoughtfully designed. Each room has unique furnishings and details like wall murals and mixed textures. Even their parking garage is covered in incredible murals by local artists. You’ll find fun and interesting photo ops around every corner, including the iconic Reno arch right outside the hotel!

pet-friendly accommodations
If you can’t stand the thought of leaving Fido home while you’re traveling bring him along! Whitney Peak Hotel is pet friendly (for dogs and cats) and we even saw several hanging out in the climbing gym. I was impressed that while we were there we never dealt normal pet smells or sounds you might expect.
