I really love patriotic decor. If you ask me–red, white, and blue is appropriate all summer long. And by summer I mean Memorial Day through Labor Day. Because even though that’s not really when summer officially is, that’s always what I think of as summertime. This DIY patriotic garland came together in less than 10 minutes! The best part though? I only used items that I already had in my craft closet! But don’t worry, even if you’re not a craft hoarder you can easily recreate this inexpensively thanks to Amazon Prime!
patriotic garland
I made this simple patriotic garland last year when I was in need of some festive stars and stripes decor for the summer months. I didn’t want to spend any money though so I dug through my craft supplies and quickly discovered lots of great stuff!
The paper mache stars had been bought last year on Christmas clearance from Hobby Lobby. The wool felt balls were bought in a big pack of various colors and sizes from Amazon. I had originally bought them for a project that I didn’t end up doing. I’ve since used them to remake this fun Valentine’s project and they’re now one of my favorite craft supplies ever!
Once I had all my materials for this patriotic garland it was as simple as deciding on a pattern. I used some fuzzy yarn I had also to add a little something.
I strung the wool felt balls on a thinner string first. Then I added a thicker jute cord and tied the paper mache stars around both strings. The pieces of yarn got added last and I love the texture they brought to the project!
