Ready to for everything to be awesome again? This is another post that originally went live last year. Of course we all know now that theme parks in California remained closed for over a year. If you are planning to visit LEGOLAND in Carlsbad, California this year then check out this post! I’ve updated it with even more news on the LEGO Movie World Grand Opening! This part of the park officially (finally) opened on May 27, 2021.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost two years since our annual passes to LEGOLAND expired–May 2019 is when we made our last visit. When we were there they had just opened the new Duplo Playtown Area in preparation for The LEGO Movie World. It was so exciting to see all the signs up announcing the new area and my kiddos were disappointed that they wouldn’t be able to check it out anytime soon! Did you know this is the largest addition to the resort in LEGOLAND California’s history?! Today I’m going to tell you all about it so you can be ready to check it out for yourselves!
The LEGO Movie World
New rides and attractions
The new land features a few new rides. Emmet’s Flying Adventure and Unikitty’s Disco Drop are brand new. The first is a flying theater ride that looks like it’s amazing! The second is a classic drop tower themed around everyone’s favorite moody hybrid kitty. Queen Watevra’s Carousel is also in the area. For those familiar with the park, it’s the Mia’s Riding Camp Carousel that was in the LEGO Friends area and has been rethemed to fit the LEGO Movie World.

For those looking for a place to let the kids run free, there’s Benny’s PlayShip. This is a space-themed playground where your kids can get out the wiggles from waiting in line. You can also “build Watevra you wa’na build” in the covered, outdoor LEGO building area right next to the carousel. One of the things that our family loves about LEGOLAND is that there is so much to do even when you’re not riding the rides!
Character meet and greets and more
There is an opportunity to meet Emmet and some of his friends at Emmet’s Super Suite experience. It sounds like there will be lots of great photo ops as well as shopping in this space as well.
The LEGO Movie World also offers reimagined dining experiences the whole family will love! You’ll find everything from crepes to ramen to flavored popcorn there!

This looks like a ton of fun!
I hope those kiddos – e-n-j-o-y!
How fun to have annual passes here! It’s been awhile since we visited Legoland.
That’s so fun that the Lego Movie World opened up in California, it’s one of our favorite areas at Legoland Florida. The disco drop and spaceship playground are two of my kid’s favorites.
