I am so excited to share this room with you but even more so–I’m so excited it’s DONE. To be honest with you, one of the reasons it took so long was because I just wasn’t sure of the direction I wanted to take the room. I couldn’t get past the huge brown bunkbed in the room. It takes up so much visual (and physical!) space and keeping it in the room didn’t fit the vision I had in my head. I really wanted to sell it and buy something else but in the end I’m glad we kept it. We need to normalize working with what you have–you don’t always have to buy new things! Is it the most beautiful piece of furniture? Definitely not. However, it is functional and the star of this pink watercolor bedroom isn’t the bed anyway, it’s the feature wall.

I never thought I’d paint a room pink. Nothing against pink, but I always try to design rooms that my kids will love for a long time and be able to grow with them. However, all the times discussing paint colors with my girls that will be sharing this space our conversation always turned to pink for the wall color. I ended up going with a lighter version of Stolen Kiss by Behr (the paint associate at Home Depot said she lightened it by 25% but keep in mind that’s kind of an arbitrary amount–they really have no way to measure that exactly) for the ceiling and 3 of the walls. The accent wall in this pink watercolor bedroom was achieved with Bubble Shell by Behr.
The rug is a washable option from Lorena Canal rugs. We’ve actually had it for several years but why buy a new one when this one still looks great? Again, I always love working with what I already have! I also created the gallery wall with items we already owned. The bedding is from Beddy’s–if you follow me on Instagram you know how much I love them! I also found the perfect spot for our new Camp Castle play table under their bunkbed. The playmat we have for it is Rainbowland so it fit perfectly with the rainbow details in the room! I also love the storage pouf I bought off of Amazon. It holds all their stuffed animals and gives them a comfy spot to read.
watercolor wall technique
A quick Google search yielded a tutorial that seemed easy enough for me to attempt. You might remember me mentioning in my Instagram Stories that I decided to attempt a watercolor wall on the way to Home Depot to buy the wall paint. Once I found the tutorial and saw it took few materials I figured why not give it a try?
materials needed:
- Paint brush
- 2-4 paint colors (sample size)
- Painter’s mitt
- Spray bottle

To create your own watercolor wall make sure you start with a blank canvas. The blog post suggested starting with a white wall–I painted a single coat of Stolen Kiss. Once the wall is dry you can begin the watercolor technique with your accent colors. Spray the wall with water lightly in a small section and then paint over that area with your accent color. Spray your painting mitt lightly and rub over the freshly painted area until you like it. Continue working in small sections at a time, making sure that some areas are lighter or darker than others. And it’s totally okay to redo sections if you want to! The great news about this project is that you can keep tweaking it until you like the end result!

Thanks SO much! It was hard for me to look past that big, brown bed, but my girls love the room and I love how it came together!
It looks so good! I love how the room turned out.
