Did you know that every year on January 31 it’s National Hot Chocolate Day? I swear, there’s a day to celebrate everything! Our family doesn’t drink coffee or tea but for half the year (October through March) we consume so much hot chocolate we should probably buy stock. Do you know how many mugs a family of eight addicted to hot chocolate goes through?! I’ve shared some hot cocoa recipes on the blog with you before, but this year I wanted to gather up some of the best recipes out there for you to enjoy! Check out this hot chocolate roundup and let me know which one you’re going to try first, okay?
what’s the difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa?
First of all, although most people (our family included!) use the two terms interchangeably, did you know there actually is a difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa? Hot cocoa is that cozy wintertime drink you can buy in powder form. One of the perks is that it’s easy to mix up in large quantities for a crowd. Hot chocolate is (technically) the term used for “drinking chocolate” which is made from actual melted chocolate that’s melted into water, milk, or cream. It tends to have a richer, creamier flavor and texture. For the purposes of this blog post today, we’re going to use both terms to mean any of the above drinks.
