I don’t know about you but my kids are obsessed with bath bombs. They especially love when the bath bombs turn the bath water different colors or have a fun surprise inside. So I knew they would be the perfect thing to try and make for Valentine’s Day! I’ve made some before but the last time I shared them on the blog I kept things pretty simple. There was some trial and error involved with making these heart bath bombs but I love the way they turned out. I even included a free printable for you if you want to gift them this Valentine’s Day! I have a great roundup of Valentine’s Day crafts at the end of this post and a great giveaway so make sure you read to the end!
diy heart bath bombs
Like I said, I’ve made bath bombs before but wanted to kick it up a notch. I knew I could make them even better this time around by using a fun heart mold and some mica dry colorant. Plus, I think I achieved bonus points because I used the same heart mold that I used on last year’s Mexican Hot Chocolate Hot Cocoa Bombs. Isn’t it great when you can use your craft supplies in lots of ways?!
materials needed:
- citric acid
- epsom salts
- baking soda
- essential oils
- witch hazel
- cosmetic grade dry colorant
bath bomb recipe:
- 1 cup of baking soda
- 1/2 cup of citric acid
- 1/4 cup of epsom salts
- a few drops of witch hazel
Mix all dry ingredients together until all clumps are gone and ingredients are well mixed. Add just a few drops of Witch Hazel. It should be similar to the consistency of kinetic sand. If it is any mushier your bath bombs will fizz while they’re drying and they will not set up correctly. You can then add your cosmetic grade colorant if you’d like. Be sure to separate into smaller bowls if you’re mixing more than one color.
Fill your molds in little layers at a time–firmly pressing the bath bomb mixture in. If you are planning to add little surprise toys inside make sure you press the mixture all around it. Once your molds are full and packed tightly allow to dry for about 10 minutes. I like to turn my oven on the lowest setting while I’m mixing my bath bombs, then turn off and place my tray of bath bombs in the warm oven to help them dry.
