Over the past couple weeks I’ve been talking a lot about our trip to Schlitterbahn last summer. From all the details about the World’s Best Waterpark to the perks of staying at the Resort onsite. I really hope I’ve inspired you to plan a trip out to New Braunfels and check out Schlitterbahn for yourself! I promise you it will be a trip you’ll never forget! Today I want to give you my top Schlitterbahn tips to have a blast with your kids!

general Schlitterbahn tips

stay at the resort

As I talked about last week, I highly recommend staying at the resort! One day is truly not enough to explore all of Schlitterbahn Waterpark New Braunfels. Although staying at a theme park or entertainment-based resort is normally pretty pricey, the Resort at Schlitterbahn has accommodations for every price point and we actually found it very affordable. Especially when you factor in that it is the absolute closest you can get to the action! Waterpark tickets are even included in your stay.

plan to walk

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is a large waterpark with 51 attractions spread out over more than 70 acres! To put it in perspective for you–Disneyland Park is about 85 acres. So you should expect to walk a lot, and climbing a lot of stairs up to the waterslides and tube chutes. We were comfortable to walk in our sandals but I know not everyone would be able to. I think next time we go we would probably all wear water shoes.

Schlitterbahn tips for inclement weather

utilize bad weather

“What Justine?? But no one wants to go to a waterpark on a rainy day!” I hear ya, but it’s important to note that Schlitterbahn New Braunfels only closes for “severe inclement weather”. Which means that a little rain or slight chill that might keep the crowds away will mean low crowds and short lines for you! We actually had lots of stormy weather during our four days at Schlitterbahn last summer. At first I was pretty disappointed, but I quickly realized we could still have a blast! Set up camp with your belongings under cover so they stay dry and go have fun, you’re going to get wet anyway! If it’s just a tad too chilly for you, Schlitterbahn has nine heated pools you can enjoy!

keep things dry

Like I said, Schlitterbahn New Braunfels doesn’t often close for rain but if you’re sticking it out in the park you want to make sure your things stay dry. There are lockers available and cabanas for rent if you’re interested. However, we always just arrived first thing in the morning and parked our stroller under cover somewhere so we’d have a dry spot just in case. It was also nice to escape the sun during our lunch break when we had sunny days. We learned our lesson after the first day when we parked under a tree and our things got soaked when the rain started, oops. You might want to bring a poncho to throw over your items if you need it. Lastly, consider getting a waterproof phone pouch you can wear to keep your phone dry if you’ll need to carry it around for photos or communication!

Schlitterbahn tips to save money

bring your own food

Our family always brings our own food whenever we can because buying three meals a day for a family of eight really adds up! One of the biggest insider Schlitterbahn tips I’m going to share with you is that they allow you to bring your own food. You can even bring coolers into the park, just no alcohol or glass containers. Best of all, if you save your money by bringing in your own meals, you can afford to splurge a little bit on the delicious treats that Schlitterbahn offers! If you have special dietary concerns you can check out this list to see the common allergens of eat eating location.

find ways to save money

There are lots of ways to save money at Schlitterbahn. I already mentioned you can bring your own food and enjoy the park with a stay at the Resort. Schlitterbahn also offers many levels of season passes, including a Cedar Fair Platinum Pass, which is what we had. That gives you a year of access to every Cedar Fair park across the country. You also get a great discount on food and merchandise with your pass! If you really don’t want a season pass though, you can save a few dollars by purchasing your daily tickets online ahead of time instead of at the front gate. Lastly, members of the military can also receive an additional discount.
