Last week I shared our family’s visit to Old Town San Diego and all our recommendations for a visit. I mentioned in that post that it’s easy to enjoy Old Town San Diego in a half day, however… more time is great too. We stayed one night at the unique Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town San Diego. It is right where the action is in Old Town yet completely peaceful. I can’t wait to share this Hacienda Hotel review with you!

Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town San Diego

The Hacienda Hotel was built into a hillside in Old Town San Diego in 1987. This means that you’re above the noise and have sweeping views of San Diego. We even watched the Sea World fireworks from our balcony! Even though this property isn’t that old, it certainly feels historic as you walk around.

Know before you go: Be warned that there aren’t elevators at this property. We had to carry our stuff up a flight of stairs but it was worth it to get our room type with the view we had! There is also a parking garage so you can try to park on whatever level you’re on to make it easier.

location

You can’t beat the location of the Hacienda Hotel. We were able to walk through the beautiful property and right out to the intersection of Conde Street and San Diego Avenue. So you are literally steps away from a variety of delicious restaurants and Old Town shopping.

Distance of Hacienda Hotel from:

  • Old Town San Diego State Historic Park: 400 feet
  • Presidio Park: .5 mile
  • Sea World San Diego: 3 miles

rooms

This Hacienda Hotel review will cover their standard room. We had two Queen beds and a full-sized sofa bed. Our room also had a mini fridge and microwave. The best part of our room was definitely the view! We were looking over the pool, but beyond that we had fabulous view of San Diego and could even see the Sea World fireworks from our balcony at night! We also found the room to be pretty quiet and were never disturbed by other guests.

amenities

The Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town San Diego has a pool and hot tub that had a relaxed atmosphere. There are also lots of fountains and sitting areas scattered around the property which really makes this hotel a retreat from the hustle and bustle of San Diego. I also noticed grills on site which would have been nice to utilize if we had stayed longer.

Travel tip: Make sure you visit the Old Town Tequila Factory Restaurant that’s located on the the top floor of the Hacienda Hotel. They make everything fresh in house and we loved our meal there with gorgeous views of San Diego from our table.
