It’s been awhile since I posted a Disney-themed homeschool lesson. Since the school year has started again I figured it’s the perfect time share another one with you! This is a fun social studies or geography lesson for elementary-aged kids that focus on map skills. Plus, you don’t even need to be in the parks to complete this lesson! You can find a Disneyland map online and print it out to complete this assignment at home!

You might be wondering why your child even needs to learn map skills. After all, everyone has a GPS device right at their fingertips, right? However, it’s important to remember that these skills that more and more seem to be disappearing from curriculum are stepping stones to other things. If we don’t learn to write cursive, how will we be able to read historical documents? If we don’t learn map skills how will we practice spatial thinking and analyzing data? So next time someone tells you that X, Y, or Z is irrelevant, tell them why it’s not!
This is a fun activity you can do while you’re at the parks waiting in line or during your meal break. You will need a physical map and not just the app, however. You can even do this activity at home–did you know you can find the current Disney maps online? Just do an online search for “Disneyland map (current year)” and tons of images will pop up and you can print out on your own.
Would your kids enjoy this activity?

I really like this. Map reading skills are important just like cursive. But you don’t always have access to GPS. Hard lesson learned in many of the national park areas I recently visited.
how do I get this?
You should just be able to click on the link for the PDF in Google Drive, it’s in the blue box at the bottom of the post. Sometimes it glitches in mobile. Let me know if you can’t access it!
