In today’s environment being a part of the online world seems inevitable. As much as we may want to keep our kids away from the internet and social media altogether, it some ways you just can’t avoid it. Especially if your child is in public school and needs access to certain tasks and assignments. Today I’m sharing some ways to help keep your kids safe online. Some links contain affiliates or partnerships, all opinions are my own.
3 tools to help keep your kids safe online
Earlier this year I shared my personal story of being attacked online. It’s important to remember that protecting your kids online is a layered approach. Nothing is fail-safe but being prepared and alert in lots of ways will help ensure you’re safeguarded.
Good Pictures, Bad Pictures books
Before anything else, make sure your child knows what to look for. There are two different versions of the book. One is a picture book for younger children, one has a workbook format for older kids. Using gentle, age-appropriate messages, children will learn to “turn, run, and tell” when they are accidentally exposed to inappropriate content.
Gabb wireless devices
We love our son’s Gabb watch 2 and the peace of mind it brings. Although we can contact him and look up his GPS location, he is only able to call or text the numbers programed in. There is no internet on it so there is no social media. It helps kids feel independence without exposing them to things they may not be prepared for. You can use LITTLEDOVE for a discount on devices!
install the Canopy app
Earlier this year I had an Instagram campaign with Canopy app. If you’re child already has a smart device with app capabilities consider installing this app. Canopy works to eliminate pornography, sexting, and other inappropriate content across all devices. You can even sign up for a free trial on their website!
Have you heard of or tried any of these before?
