A couple weekends ago we had a staycation at Apple Hill, an area only about an hour from where we live. We’ve visited several times before–usually a couple times a year. However, this was the first time we’d spend a whole weekend in Apple Hill. We had such a blast and finally had time to do all the things we say we’ll do “next time”. Keep reading for how to spend a weekend in Apple Hill.
what to do during a weekend in Apple Hill
where to eat in Apple Hill
There are so many delicious places to eat in Apple Hill it can be hard to pick just one. For an elevated menu at a place that is totally kid-friendly check out Drew Bean Farms. They have a rotating seasonal menu so make sure you follow them on Instagram for any updates. Our family tried almost their entire menu and loved everything. Some of our favorite items were the pot roast, chicken pot pie, and the fried chicken. We also loved the desserts that we tried and after talking with the owners realized that they’re all made right there at Drew Bean Farms! If the Crème Brule French Toast is available then you definitely don’t want to miss it! Trust me when I say, your whole family will love you meal.

If you’re looking for some baked goods for breakfast check out High Hill Ranch or Boa Vista Orchards. Boa Vista Orchards is one of our favorite places to visit in Apple Hill because they’re open year round and offer seasonal harvest goods. High Hill Ranch however is most popular in the fall and has apple doughnuts that feature sprinkles, maple, chocolate, and more. They’re also famous for their cider shakes. Of course, make sure you pick up a gallon of cider and some baked goods for home!
where to stay for the weekend
There are over a 100 vacation rentals in Camino, CA (where Apple Hill is located). There’s also a lovely Bed and Breakfast located among the farms. Of course, you can always stay in Placerville as well. However, if you’ve got a family in tow than a vacation rental located right in the heart of Apple Hill is your best bet. We loved our stay at Casa Manzana only minutes from our favorite Apple Hill Farms.
where to go near Apple Hill
Whenever we drive through Placerville I always wish that we had more time to walk around and explore. During this weekend in Apple Hill we finally had that chance! Parking in the public structure downtown is free for the first two hours which was plenty of time for us to shepherd our kids down Main Street and stop for lunch at Old Town Grill. Highly recommend this place both for the delicious burgers and fries and the hometown hospitality!
We also crossed off another Placerville bucket list item by visiting the Goldbug Mine. Goldbug Mine operated until World War II and you can pay to take a self-guided audio tour which was perfect for our family. After touring the mine you can also take a look at the Stamp Mill and the Blacksmith Shop. This is a fun and informative piece of living history that your whole family will love!
