advice for visiting Disneyland while pregnant
Disneyland is a magical place, and for expectant mothers, it can seem even more so. However, pregnancy can come with some limitations, and a visit to Disneyland may require some extra planning and preparation. As a mom who has been there, I’ve compiled the best tips for visiting Disneyland while pregnant.
check with your doctor
Before planning your trip to Disneyland, you may want to check with your doctor. You want to make sure that you’re healthy enough to travel and enjoy the park’s attractions without any risks to your own health or that of your baby. You can also seek advice on certain precautions you should take or activities to avoid.
plan ahead for Disneyland while pregnant
Don’t underestimate your pregnancy! I must admit, even being pregnant as many times as I have, I sometimes forget certain things. Pregnancy can be unpredictable, so it’s essential to plan ahead when traveling anywhere–especially a theme park. It’s a good idea to make a list of the rides and attractions you want to experience. I like to have a general idea of what we want to accomplish that day, but I also try to remember to be flexible!
dress comfortably
Comfort is key when you’re pregnant, especially when you’re walking around all day. Choose comfortable, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely. Layers are always a good idea as you never know what your hormones will be doing. Wear supportive shoes with good arch support to avoid foot and leg fatigue and consider wearing compression socks.
don’t be afraid to take it slow
Pregnancy can be tiring, so it’s important to take frequent breaks throughout the day. I actually love using the time that my husband and big kids are on rides to sit and relax, or grab a specially theme park treat. There are so many great shady spots around the park to relax, or you can take advantage of the many indoor attractions that offer air conditioning and seating. As much as you may want to experience everything Disneyland has to offer, it’s important not to overdo it. Take breaks when you need to, and listen to your body. If you start to feel tired or uncomfortable, it’s time to take a break or call it a day. Oftentimes, we like to go back to the hotel for a nap or pool break in the afternoons!
stay hydrated and nourished
Keeping your body fueled and hydrated is essential at a theme park for everyone, but especially when you’re pregnant. Bring plenty of water and snacks with you to avoid getting dehydrated or hungry. Yes, you can bring your own food into the parks! Of course, there’s also lots of great dining options as well, including healthy options like fresh fruit and salads. Don’t forget that you can also get free cups of water at any location that has a soda fountain. Check the app for water fountains and water bottle refill stations.
rides at Disneyland while pregnant
One of your biggest concerns when visiting Disneyland while pregnant is probably–what can I ride? It’s true that a lot of the rides at Disneyland have height and health restrictions and are not recommended for pregnant women. This includes rides that have sudden drops, twists, or turns, as well as rides that are high-intensity or have a lot of vibration. However, there are still plenty of ride options for you at Disney parks!
which rides can you ride?
Remember that I am not a healthcare professional. This list of rides you can enjoy at Disneyland while pregnant is based off of my personal opinion and experience, as well as the Expectant Mothers Advisory on the Disneyland website. You should always consult your healthcare provider about what is safe for you. Some rides that are considered “safe” may make you ill if you’re especially prone to nausea while pregnant.
