Can you believe that Easter is only a few weeks away? With it being at the end of March this year it really snuck up on me. Wasn’t it just Christmas?! River Fox Train in Sacramento
River Fox train travels along an out-and-back path along the Sacramento River. It was originally built in 1911 by Northern Electric Co. and transported people throughout the Sacramento area. The River Fox Train, as we know it today, is family owned and operated and is the sister train of the famous Skunk Train built in 1885. You can book a ride on one of many themed train rides throughout the year, some of which are even dog-friendly.

Easter Egg Express
The Easter Egg Express takes place on weekends surrounding Easter. This excursion is two-part, starting with a train ride and ending with an egg hunt and games at a private riverfront park. Your kids can get their faces painted, make fun crafts, and even meet the Easter bunny. All of this is included in your ticket price! My kids also really enjoyed the Easter festival after the ride. Other than the egg hunt, they also loved the bounce houses and the organized outdoor games.
tips for the River Fox Train Easter Egg Express
what to do
While onboard the Easter Egg Express you’ll be able to participate in board games and fun Easter crafts. If anything, I wish that they train ride were slightly longer so we could have enjoyed this unique experience longer! It was fun to sit around as a family chatting and enjoying the fun Easter activities on the train. There was even face painting, which my girls loved absolutely loved! Be sure to bring cash so you can tip the hard working artists!
where to sit
The Easter Egg Express offers many seating options on board. Guests can choose to sit indoors or in an open air train car. The open train cars are also where you’ll find a few snacks and beverages for purchase. You are able to walk around the train cars during the ride. However, I recommend picking your desired seat right away because the train can fill up. We chose to sit indoors near the Easter crafts car since my kids wanted to spend so much time there. Note that the train cars are airconditioned and there are bathrooms on the train.

After your ride on the River Fox Train Easter Egg Express you get to enjoy the festival in their private park along the riverfront. There are egg hunts that are divided for the children by age so everyone can find some. Then there are also organized games and bounce houses for the kids to enjoy. We enjoyed beautiful weather on the afternoon we went and had a blast in the picturesque park setting on our Easter weekend. There were also lots of great Easter phot ops!
