One of my favorite family travel destinations to recommend year-round is the Disneyland Resort. Yes, our family loves national parks, beaches, and mountains as well, but there’s something special about a Disney vacation! Although it always seems crowded now, there are some days that are slightly less crowded than others. It might be more crowded during special events, but then there’s limited edition food, merchandise, and shows to enjoy! Truly, whether you’re visiting during the crowded hot days of summer, or lower-crowd days, it’s always magical! Today I wanted to share some reasons why you don’t want to miss a visit to the Disneyland Resort this year.

reasons to visit Disneyland in 2024

what changes are coming to Disneyland this year?

Walt Disney once famously said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” That’s why the Disney theme parks are constantly changing. But one thing that has never changed is the magic you feel! From the moment you step through the turnstiles and walk under the railroad tracks, you’re transported to a new world. 2024 continues to follow suit and bring changes, the resort has ramped up the enchantment with special events and experiences that cater to families of all ages.

The recently revamped Mickey’s Toontown is a perfect example. It’s been redesigned to be more inclusive and interactive, making it the ideal place for families to explore together. Keeping the same iconic Toontown vibe, the reimagined area added a new ride, eateries, and updated several fan favorite things.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure–the reimagination of Splash Mountain–is due to open at the Disneyland Resort later this year too. This will be another case of revamping an older fan favorite for the next generation. Other examples are the redesigning of Tower of Terror, California Screaming, and Autopia.

will there be attractions for the whole family?

Disneyland Resort really is the perfect family vacation! Unlike many other theme parks that cater more towards either older or younger kids, Disney boasts a wide array of attractions that cater to all ages! For the littlest ones, rides like Peter Pan’s Flight and Dumbo the Flying Elephant are perfect. As long as your child can sit independently, they can ride! The fan-favorite family ride, Storybook Land Canal Boats, is also a delightful ride that keeps evolving as Disney tells new stories.

For older kids and thrill-seekers, attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! offer high thrills. And if you’re a Marvel fan, make sure you check out Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure Park. New characters are constantly being introduced to this area and interacting with park guests.

And let’s not forget the iconic Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion. These are two more perfect examples of rides the whole family can enjoy together. These timeless classics continue to captivate park guests with their immersive storytelling and detailed theming. And even the most timid guests will enjoy the holiday overlay of Haunted Mansion that starts in the fall and runs through Christmas!

what at the dining options at Disney?

If you love food you’ll love the selection at the Disneyland Resort. Not only can you find delicious and unique dining options, but the atmosphere is also incredible! With a wide range of dining options, there’s something even the pickiest eater will love.

In Disneyland Park, the Blue Bayou Restaurant is a classic fan favorite. Reservations fill up fast so plan accordingly! This restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction is a bucket list item for many and is one of our family’s favorite places to dine!

Over in Disney California Adventure Park, the Pym Test Kitchen at Avengers Campus features innovative dishes with a fun twist–and menu items can change frequently! Of course, there are lots of sweet treats too, like Trolley Treats and Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream. Be aware that not every dining location offers mobile ordering or Magic Key discounts.

And for a truly unique experience, consider a character dining meal! We usually try to book one character dining experience per trip. Breakfast at Plaza Inn with Minnie and friends or dinner at Goofy’s Kitchen are perfect ways to see characters without having to wait in long lines!

should you visit Disneyland during seasonal events?

Disneyland Resort is well-known for its seasonal events and celebrations. These are events that bring in the crowds, but can also add more magic to your visit. No matter what time of year you go, there’s always something special happening at the Disneyland Resort!

Our family is undecided of when we love to visit Disneyland the most. During the Halloween season, the park transforms into with the silly and spooky Oogie Boogie Bash. Kids and adults alike will love dressing up in costumes and trick-or-treating throughout the park. Tickets sell out fast every year! Even if you’re not going to the after-hours event, the entire park is transformed with special food, merchandise, decorations, and attractions.

But the holiday season is equally magical. Disneyland’s Christmas Fantasy Parade, the dazzling Believe In Holiday Magic Fireworks, and the charming “it’s a small world” Holiday overlay are just a few highlights. Don’t forget that Haunted Mansion is still made over with a fun Nightmare Before Christmas theme too! There really is nothing like seeing the park covered with twinkling lights and festive decorations. And of course, delicious seasonal food!

bottom line–visit Disneyland for the memories

What I love most about our Disney trips are the memories we create as a family. I still remember my son’s first item riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the huge grin on his face! If someone tells you you’re silly for taking your young kids to Disney, just tell them, “They might not remember this, but I will!”
