I’m not going to lie–I’m quite lazy when it comes to my daughter’s summer birthday. Now that we have a pool, every year it’s time for a friend party I know it’s going to be a pool party. It’s just such an easy activity–we already have everything we need! Luckily she’s easy going, so when I suggested an aloha pool party for her 9th birthday this year, she was completely on board. Even though it came together easily, it was definitely not boring and I’m so excited to share the details with you! This party came together in partnership with Inflate Gold Country, all opinions are my own.
how to throw an aloha pool party
It should be no surprise that swimming was the main activity at our aloha pool birthday party. However, I had a couple of other surprises up my sleeve for the birthday girl and her guests. No pool for your aloha-themed birthday party? No problem! You could also have a sprinkler set up, a water balloon station, water guns, or rent a great water inflatable from Inflate Gold Country!
activities for an aloha birthday party
As I mentioned, swimming was one of the main attractions. I love being able to have a pool party because it’s so low key to put together. However, I wanted an extra surprise for the birthday girl so I teamed up with Inflate Gold Country. They were kind enough to come the morning of the party and set up their Nugget bouncer, a beautiful white aesthetic bouncer that’s the perfect 10′ x 13′ size. They also have a smaller size, and two larger sizes available for rent–one of which is a combo water and bouncer your kids would love! Inflate Gold Country (@inflate.goldcountry on Instagram) is a family-owned business who takes great pride in what they do. I also appreciate that local delivery is included in the rental price!

Another activity that we did during the aloha pool party for my daughter’s ninth birthday was opening oysters. After all, what’s a trip to Hawai’i without getting a pearl out of an oyster?! I discovered awhile ago that you could actually buy freshwater cultured pearls in oysters on Amazon and it was such a fun activity! Check out all the links in my Amazon storefront! Note: if you buy the oysters, have gloves for your guests and small hammers may be a good idea to, to help crack the shells. Some oysters were very easy to open, others were a little trickier. We did have two guests get slight cuts from opening their shells. Also, out of 20 oysters, only one did not have a pearl inside.
a simple food spread
I’ve mentioned before that we usually try to not plan parties for meal times since food can be expensive for a crowd! However, once again our schedule forced us to plan a party for dinnertime on a Friday. We kept things simple like we did for our Bluey birthday party and had pizza as our main entree. We also had watermelon and Hawaiian Kettle Style Chips.

As we usually do, we ordered a Costco cake for our aloha pool party. The birthday girl wanted vanilla cake so we ordered it Costco and asked for the scored rose design with no roses. This is my favorite hack to save money when buying cake for a large crowd. I then was able to decorate the cake with seashell and mermaid molded chocolate in bright colors. Not familiar with my Costco cake hack? You can check it out in this blog post! It will change your life!
aloha party decorations
I love having outdoor parties because I feel like I can keep the decor minimal…. usually. Unfortunately, I do feel like I went a teeny bit overboard this time around. I made a large balloon garland for the back patio in the party colors. I also added more balloons to other areas as well to bring in pops of color. That was most of the decor for the party.

In addition, I ordered some neat arched backdrops I’ve been eyeing on Amazon and set those up. I’m looking forward to using them for a lot more parties in the future. It’s easy to make them fit any party theme by simply switching out the colored slipcovers on them! I supplemented decor slightly with some cheap floral leis and fresh florals.
a meaningful party favor
Party favors are not my favorite aspect of a child’s party. I love buying favors to go along with the party themed, but I prefer quality of items over quantity of items. I restrained myself from buying lots of party favors and just went all in with the pearls in the oysters. Once the party guests opened their oysters, they were ableto pick out the pearl cage they wanted, as well as the colored cord they wanted. Then we slipped them into nice jewelry boxes that had their names on them. I think they were a big hit!
