The spring session of general conference is only a month away. Our family loves this weekend and even our kids look forward to it! Over the years we’ve worked at making it a fun weekend to look forward to with special foods and activities. This helps the weekend be one they look forward to, but it doesn’t always help them be quiet and engaged during the 10 hours of conference sessions. I’m constantly designing new worksheets and coming up with new ideas for my kids to keep things fresh. Here is my idea for making a general conference weekend kit that I came up with last year!
what is general conference?
As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we believe in modern day revelation and still have prophets. Twice a year (in April and October) we are able to hear from our church leaders–men and women from all over the world–as they gather in Salt Lake City and share messages of faith, hope, obedience, etc. Members are able to either attend general conference in person or watch live. And you don’t have to be a member to watch! Anyone is welcome tune in for part or all of general conference weekend! You can also watch past conference sessions online at anytime.

why make a general conference weekend kit?
Although 10 hours of conference sessions somehow go by quickly for most adults (the messages are so inspirational!), most kids have a hard time sitting through that many hours quietly and reverently. Go figure. I’m always trying to think of some new way to keep my kiddos, especially my youngest ones, quiet and somewhat engaged. Personally, I have found that kids will be interested for longer periods of time when something is new or different. So last year I had the idea to assemble a general conference weekend kit full of printables, new toys, and some treats to pull out while we watched.

We also decided to make kits for some of our friends that also have young kids. Then we delivered them the day before conference weekend! The girls were so excited to help me put these together and it was fun to find quiet activities and think about which printables would be best to include. In fact, I even created another general conference printable freebie! This one was designed on legal-sized paper so it’s extra-big but you can also easily print it up at home! In addition to a new general conference activity sheet for little kids, I designed a label for your general conference weekend kit. It’s perfect for storing during the six months between conference sessions, or gifting to friends! Click on the buttons below to print:
